Back in May of 2020 I asked each of my employees to make a prediction for the closing spot price of gold on December 31, 2020. Whoever was the closest would win a 1 ounce gold maple leaf (current market value - $2,500 CDN). It turned out to be very close with Jesse van de Merwe beating out Jonathan Wellum Jr. by $1.50! This morning I handed over the beautiful gold coin to Jesse. I must admit it was very hard to part with, Jesse had to wrestle it from my grip!

Federal government spending completely out of control. Even worse we don't even know where large portions of the money are going! "The National Post spoke with six former Department of Finance officials, including two former deputy ministers, who expressed concern over a lack of fiscal transparency in Ottawa at a time of unprecedented deficit spending. The people stressed that there has always been some degree of disagreement between the PMO, who makes decisions based on political calculations, and the much more staid Department of Finance, which has long acted as a sort of sober second thought in Ottawa."

Canada's liberal/NDP government is literally destroying the Canadian balance sheet. These incompetent and crooked politicians need to be extricated from their positions as soon as we have another election. In the mean time we need to oppose them at every turn and expose their folly.

Mourning the loss of a wonderful woman, friend, client and marketing executive. I had the privilege of hiring Mickey Falcone back in 1997 to provide leadership in the marketing department of AIC Mutual Funds. Mickey eventually took over as our VP of Marketing and helped drive the sales into the AIC Funds. She was instrumental in building our brand in the Canadian mutual fund industry. Her amazing skills were recognized by peers and colleagues. Mickey will be missed by all that knew her and especially missed by her devoted and loving husband Bruce Reid.
