UPDATE FEB 20 Hi everyone another huge thank you to everyone. The support in this community is simply overwhelming. This week has been a total rollercoaster ...ride, starting with a very solid sighting last Sunday night off of Arrowhead Rd., across from the alpine parking lot. We set up a home base of sorts in the trail system there that includes food, some of my clothes and a trail cam that is connected to the web via cellular so that we get live shots as they happen. It looked really promising. We staked out the area every night as it seemed that he was travelling more at night. We even got a couple of shots of a dog that could have been David. I was only a couple of minutes away when they came in and rushed over to search for him but it was too late. So, thanks to the amazing people at Cooper’s Girls, we added their second camera and adjusted the first to try to get a clearer shot. Later on we found a similar dog and we spoke with the owner and discovered that the dog that we thought was David was actually this dog. We all felt really defeated. Admittedly, it was a bit soul-crushing. Then, one of our super-awesome team members did a second follow-up with the owner and discovered that this dog is never off-leash and is always wearing a harness so we are back to believing (hoping? Dreaming?) that it’s David. So, hopes are high. He still seems to be in the area. If you are looking to help, as so many of you are, please read more below. IF YOU SEE HIM Please, if you can take a picture, please do so and then CALL me 416-728-5418. Either myself or one of the awesome team that has gathered can likely be in the area in 10 mins or less. SUPER SUPER IMPORTANT DO NOT CALL AFTER HIM and DO NOT PURSUE HIM. He is deep into flight mode right now and is very good at avoiding humans or we would have more sightings. You can try to get low if you have food to draw him with but you will need to have a lead. If you don't have a lead just focus on where he came from and where he is going and reach out ASAP. David went walkabout this morning (Feb 7) and has yet to come home. We’re over by Farmer’s Pantry at Grey Rd. 13 and the 10th Line. If anybody sees him, please grab him and let me know via DM. He will come to pretty much anyone and is happy to jump in a car. He is SUPER friendly. Davis is a northern rescue dog from Waskaganish, QC on the shores of James Bay. He is accustomed to surviving outside in brutally cold weather and managing encounter with wolves he is a savvy and resilient dog that is good at sorting himself out and surviving figuring out both shelter and food while he lived on the streets and in the bush there. He shouldn't really be compared to or thought of as one of the dogs that we know and love. While he is likely anxious that he can't find home, I don't think that he is scared or frightened unless he has gotten himself hurt. But, again, because of his history, I just don't see that being the case. He's just too experienced. He's not the type of dog to wander on the road but may end up there from time to time as he journeys. His nose will leave him where the animals are as he follows their scents. While he's not interested in following cars, he loves following any other type of machine (side by sides, ATVs, sleds, tractors) so it wouldn't surprise me if he were close to a snowmobile trail.
