Heads up, folks! The Skeena Queen is experiencing mechanical difficulties and has cancelled all sailings until the 1:50pm out of Fulford. This means NO VEHICLE SERVICE out of Fulford until 1:50pm. BC Ferries is providing a complimentary water taxi service for foot passengers from the adjacent government dock. This is going to cause the Vesuvius ferry to have a very busy day, so plan accordingly or make alternate plans. ... In the meantime, we’ve got you covered! Well folks, it is the end of an era at Rock Salt. After 10 years of distinguished service Lauren has decided it’s time for a change. As sad as it is to see her go (so sad!), can you really ask for more from a person than 10 years of hard work and dedication? We think not. As good of a barista you will ever find, Lauren’s value goes so far beyond the perfect coffee art on your latte and even way beyond the the epic discussions of Marvel and Star Trek and all of the hilarious ...conversations that have taken place in that café between her and customers, staff and friends. That’s the value I am speaking about, folks. Friendship. More than the exemplary effort she brings every single day, Lauren is a just such a good friend and that is irreplaceable. 10 years. As hard as it is to see Lauren go, we couldn’t be happier or more excited to see what the next chapter brings for her and as friends we will have the pleasure of seeing whatever that may be and be comforted knowing she’s never that far away. After waking up at 5:30am for the last decade, we hope she gets to finally sleep in! Thank you, Lauren. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, the burns, the blisters, the sleepless nights and long days. Thank you for all your help training and turning out new baristas like they came from a top notch school. Hello loyal Rock Salt supporters! With restaurants opening up their dining rooms, this seems like a good time for a quick update regarding sit down dining. While we are chomping at the bit to get back to it, we want to make sure we get it right and therefore will not be opening the dining room until the first days of June. ... That being said, there are lots of great things being done while we have the time. The first thing you can look forward to is fresh paint inside and out. We also swapped out the oceanside windows for efficient sliders so that we can open them up and let in the glorious sea breeze in the summer and actually keep some heat in during winter. We removed a window panel on the patio to allow some of the fore mentioned breeze in so you can expect a more comfortable Rock Salt, no matter where you are seated. While it certainly isn’t the May Long Monday we are accustomed to down here in Fulford, it is nice to see that B.C residents decided largely to stay at home this long weekend. Ferry traffic is very light leaving the island today, on what is often a day of 2 sailing waits in previous years.
