We are extremely grateful for the support and community love we have received, especially from our wonderful clients, assistant coaches and instructors, volunteers, community partners and the City of New Westminster. This decision did not come easily. Due to circumstances related to Covid-19, we did not make it through to the other side. Being closed since March 16, and the ...fact that we are a small, volunteer based Centre that serves a high risk population, the financial situation does not allow us to keep operating the Centre. Now here's some GREAT news! Although the Centre might not be around IMPACT Parkinson’s Society will still be alive and well! We will continue to offer our unique programs, workshops and events, whether they be online or in-person in the future, and continue to fundraise and support Parkinson's in general. Our virtual programs currently running are Rock Steady Boxing with Robyn, Yoga for PD and Let's Talk Loud Group Voice Therapy. Message from the heart: Thank you to all of you who have welcomed Online Rock Steady into your homes, offices, garages.places where you normally do life. Now, Rock Steady is no longer a place where you go. Now, we realize more than ever that Rock Steady is a state of mind. It is what drives us forward when we are told that we can no longer go to the gym. ... Now, the corner that we referred to as part of a boxing ring resides in your game room, living room, or backyard. Now, we learn that neither Parkinsons nor COVID-19 discriminates against the people it strikes. Now, we must stay safe and alert. And now when we look around it feels like the invisible enemy has torn us apart. Now is not the time to sit still. Now is the time to continue our fight....because we are STILL Rock Steady! Wow! how true is that from fellow RSB Coach at The Woodlands! How is everyone doing? We sure miss all our wonderful clients, their families and our amazing volunteers. The connection and camaraderie we have developed is very special and so important for health and well-being. Heres an update about Rock Steady Boxing Fraser Valley: As with many new small businesses like ours we have yet to qualify for any of the COVID-19 government initiatives. Please trust us in telling you there are very strict criteria and for various reasons we do not qualify. Weve looked into it all. We have a bit of hope for the newly announced Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) Program but time will tell. And if we do qualify no funds will be seen till June or after. What does this mean: We closed on March 16. Our monthly lease and bills are piling up. We havent paid for April yet and May 1 is on Friday. We do want to thank our landlords for a reduction in rent for April! Are we concerned about our future? You bet we are! If we have to permanently close what about all our Parkinsons fighters?! Its hard enough fighting back against a degenerative neurological disease with a full support system in place!! Now theyve been in isolation for almost 7 weeks! Moving forward: Right now the only source of income is via our virtual RAFFLE. If you are able, please consider buying tickets! There are some GREAT prizes donated by local businesses even though they have been affected by COVID-19 too. We are extremely grateful for them.
