Optometric Assistant position available in our Elkford location. The successful applicant would be required to work Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30am to 5:30pm in Elkford. Additional days can be offered in our Fernie location. Applicants should be professional, well organized, have good communication skills, attention to detail and preferably have had experience in working with the public. Beneficial skills will be computer experience, retail sales and telephone skills. Previous training or expereince as an Optometric Assistant is an asset but not required. Duties will include reception work, patient care, pre-testing, eyeglass frame and lenses selection and repair. Training will be provided. June is Cataract Awareness Month What are Cataracts? It is a clouding of the crystalline lens of the eye, its capsule, or both with consequent loss of visual acuity

Our Fernie and Elkford clinics are now open to offer routine eye exams in addition to urgent, critical and emergency care services. The reopening guidelines will restrict our office operation. We will be open for appointments, though fewer than normal, and we will limit the number of individuals in the office at this time. All visitors to our office will be required to wear a mask: physical distancing in the office, whether during an exam, selection of frames, or dispensing o...f glasses is essentially not possible. We have limited disposable masks, so we are requesting patients supply their own mask, of any type, if possible. This can be a reusable, fabric mask. We ask that patients come alone whenever possible. One parent should accompany one child. Individuals with mobility or accessibility issues still will require accompaniment for support. With reduced exam frequency and modified work schedule it may take months to deal with the backlog of patients. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this difficult time and look forward to seeing everyone soon!
