#supperchallenge this week was vacation, so we went to Cuba with a Medianoche and some rice & beans. Medianoche is similar to a classic Cuban sandwich, but with a sweet egg bread instead. Our elections are around the corner and we’re accepting nominations right now! If you’re an active member you should have received a nomination email early on... December 28. All 9 board positions are up for election and we’re excited to extend this opportunity to be a part of the next chapter of BBQ in Canada. Questions? Just ask! Board Roles and Responsibilities BOARD OF DIRECTORS Your board is made up of Directors/Chapter Leads from each region as defined in our Bylaws, along with other Director positions as determined by the board, in this instance, Standing Members, who are elected by the membership. The Board will not exceed 14 members, and from that elected body, the four executive roles are elected. They are the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Board Members not present for 50% of meetings, or absent without reason for three meetings in a row, are considered to have resigned from the board and will be replaced according to our Bylaws. Any Board Member failing to meet the Roles and Responsibilities as outlined in this document, may be removed from the Board, by the Board, and their membership revoked. All Board Members have the following responsibilities: Attend all Board Meetings, approximately 90 minutes per month Contribute a minimum of 5-10 hours per month dedicated to Committee activitiesand other board activities. (I.e. conduct marketing research, draft proposal for next meeting, follow up with member questions and requests, etc.) Represent the CBBQS as required, as per our Code of Conduct Commit to being a self-starter, able to function at a high level with minimal assistance independently You must be willing to take on responsibilities that may be new to you, show a willingness to learn and grow with the role. You are a leader. You must work with the board and all society members. PROVINCIAL CHAPTER LEAD (6 Positions) The Chapter Lead is the primary CBBQS representative for their region. They’re expected to interact with, and support Members, Teams, Event Organizers, and the public within their region. In addition to the general board responsibilities above, additional responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to, the following: 1. Liaison with events in your region, or international competitions where teams from your region have competed 2. Triage any issues with scoring if they arise. 3. Represent the CBBQS at events in your region. Coordinate with the organizer to speak about the Society at the Cooks Meeting 4. Responsible for organizing the CBBQS-sponsored Good Luck shot on the morning of turn-in. 5. Work directly with current and future organizers who have questions about running an event. (Don’t worry, we have resources for you.) 6. Help develop team growth in your region by promoting and supporting the Mentorship Program. 7. Assist with membership disagreements as they arise. 8. You are your membership’s interface with the Society. 9. Vote on Society decisions with the overall goals of the Society in mind. 10. Lead and participate in Society Committees, including soliciting assistance on said committees from members within your region. STANDING MEMBER: 3 positions Standing Members serve the CBBQS specifically at a national level. It’s expected that theywill focus and lead specific directives nationally, that benefit all members. In addition to the general board responsibilities above, additional responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to, the following: 1. Lead 1 to 2 Committees, directing other board members and member volunteers to meet timelines and deliverables. 2. Report back to the Board on Committee milestones, risks, deliverables. 3.Lead national strategy, focused on working with the board to ensure alignment to Society goals. 4.Author required documents for review by the Board, as directed by the Board or Committees. (I.e. Finance, Communications, etc.) 5.Accountable for delivering on committed goals, on time and as required.

Such a great weekend seeing all of our #bbqfamily and enjoying a #bbqcomp during these unprecedented times, we’ll just have to do better next time is all!
