Hey Rockyview Family, Have you ever been gone from home for a while maybe for University, work or a mission trip? Do you remember how it felt when you finally arrived back home? Being re-united with your family and friends? Eating the food you love? Sleeping in your own bed again? Dorothy was right: There’s no place like home. For decades, the Jews who had been held captive in Babylon, were anxiously awaiting the day when they too would get to return home to Jerusalem.... This weekend, we’ll discover not only how God made that possible, but how He provided for their journey and the resources necessary to rebuild the Temple. But we’ll also see some of the challenges they had to face, which leads to their priorities getting out of whack. I think you’ll be surprised to discover all kinds of parallels in this chapter of The Story to our own stories, as we are reminded of the importance of keeping God and His mission first place in our lives. We’ll also be celebrating Communion together, so for those of you who are not quite ready to gather in person just yet, please remember to have some bread and grape juice on hand. Hey Rockyview Family, Have you ever felt homesick? Maybe for you it happened when you went to summer camp for the first time. Or maybe it was when you went off to College or University in another city. In the chapter of The Story that we’ll be looking at this weekend, we discover that that’s exactly how the Israelites who’d been hauled off to Babylon were feeling. But even though they were now far from Jerusalem and particularly the Temple it didn’t mean that they were... far from God’s presence. In fact, God begins showing up in some unmistakable and dramatic ways through a fearsome foursome, by the names of Daniel, Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego. Through their example, we can see how to remain sold out for God even when we find ourselves in a strange land.
