Roelands Plant Farms Inc. 21.02.2021

*For Immediate Release* No Positive Cases at Lambton County Greenhouse August 7, 2020, Lambton Shores, ON... After it was identified that two employees contracted COVID-19 from a source outside the workplace, Lambton Shores greenhouse, Roelands Plant Farms, took the precautionary step of offering on-site testing to the rest of their staff. Testing was completed on Tuesday, August 4th, and results confirmed today that there were no positive cases identified. It is very likely that the affected employees were never physically at work while infected, but we wanted to make sure that we did not have any internal spread. says Adrian Roelands, one of the company’s two owners. We’ve also been very vigilant about taking precautions over the last months, with extra sanitizing, requirements for masks and distancing, taking temperatures, all of it. But we did want to take this extra step to be sure, and it’s what was recommended to us. The company worked closely with Lambton Public Health, throughout the process and would like to thank them for their guidance and professionalism. They would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all team members for their positive attitude throughout the process, and to the community for their support and understanding. The Sarnia Observer first reported on the cases on Monday, after they obtained internal emails intended to keep employees informed and updated. We were very disappointed that the Observer reported on this when they did, it was very premature, and they did not have all the information. says Jodi Roelands, the company’s co-owner. Had there been internal spread, or had it been deemed an outbreak, Lambton Public Health would have notified the public and the press. But before that point, we believe it was unethical of them to have published it. The article definitely caused unnecessary stress and anxiety for our staff, who are all essential workers, added Jodi. We live in a small community, and everyone knows where people work. There was a certain amount of panic caused in the community. We had cases of employee family members being asked not to show up to work for their own jobs, until test results were back. There are real world consequences to the news-cycle, and in this case, it was money out of the pockets of essential workers.

Hi Everyone, We want to thank the community for looking out for and expressing concerns in regards to our International Team Members safety during this pandemic. Many of our workers live together and are therefore operating under the same rules as a family would. Individuals from different houses are staying separate from each other, and are not working the same shifts. The people who live in the same houses, are treating each other the same way you and your family would an...d will not travel in groups larger than 5 people. Thank you again for your concern! Stay healthy! Roelands Plant Farms Inc.
