FIREARMS AND DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP IN GEORGINA York Regional Police has charged a man with multiple offences, including firearms ...offences and drug trafficking, after a vehicle was stopped for speeding in the Town of Georgina. On Tuesday, November 24, 2020, shortly before 1 a.m., an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding in the area of Leslie Street and The Queensway South. When speaking with the driver, the officer observed evidence drugs in the vehicle. During a search, officers located more than 18 grams of crack cocaine, seven grams of powdered cocaine, six grams of fentanyl and a loaded handgun. Charged: Leabert SHAW, 22, no fixed address Charges Include: Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose Occupy Motor Vehicle With Firearm Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking Speeding 120km/h in a posted 80km/h zone Our officers and investigators working in #3 District have charged more than 25 people and conducted 10 drug-related search warrants in relation to opioids being used and trafficked within the Town of Georgina, said Superintendent Maria Ahrens. Public safety in our community is paramount and we will continue to work to combat illegal drugs. York Regional Police is committed to combatting the distribution of opioids in our community.
