Roncy Village Veterinary Clinic 06.02.2021

It’s a BIG month for our Roncy doctors! Dr. Karen has returned from her maternity leave, Dr. Alison has started her maternity leave, Dr. Jen (who originally started with us last year as a summer locum vet) has agreed to join our team longer-term, and we are very excited to welcome Dr. Amina Johnson to the Roncy family! Dr. Amina graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She spent 10 years working as a vet in Boston and the United Kingdom before ...moving to Toronto, and for the past decade has been based at Jane and Richview Animal Hospitals. Dr. Amina just joined our team a week ago, but with her calm and caring manner, extensive experience, commitment to top-quality medicine, and sense of humour, she fit right in and it feels like she has been here forever! Get to know Dr. Amina better at www.roncyvillagevetclinic.com/team/amina Please join us in welcoming Dr. Amina and Dr. Jen, welcoming back Dr. Karen, and sending the very best wishes to Dr. Alison!

Our little buddy Nick Furry is all grown up (and healthy as can be)! He visited tonight for his annual exam & vaccines with Dr. Karen, and we can’t believe it’s been a whole year since his final kitten visit!

UPDATE: I’ve been reunited with my family, just as TAS was arriving to pick me up! This was not intentional and I am very loved. Big thanks to Toronto Animal Services for coming SO quickly since we were closing, we really appreciate it. And thanks to everyone who shared the post and shared tips to help get this sweet girl home! Do you know me? I was tied up outside the candy store on Roncesvalles Ave (between Constance and Marmaduke) for a few hours this afternoon and was ...getting pretty cold, so a nice person brought me to Roncy Village Vet. I don’t have a microchip, so Toronto Animal Services is coming to pick me up tonight! If you are looking for me I’m still at the clinic right now, so call us at 416-538-8387 (or if it’s after 7pm and we’re closed, reply to this post with your contact info, since one of our team will be staying with me until TAS can get here, and will keep an eye on social media). Thanks! See more

Happy New Year! Tonight's fireworks can scare pets into traffic, so please keep your cats inside and be very careful when walking your dogs. We also have an emergency clinic update - Central Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic (CTVRC) has unfortunately had to close until January 11 due to COVID-19 exposure. Please see below for alternate emergency clinics, and always call first (or on the way) to ensure your closest clinic has space, as emergency clinics have been severely ove...rloaded throughout the pandemic. We know that some people have been frustrated that most veterinary clinics have continued to operate via curbside service only, despite stores and many other businesses allowing customers inside. We don't like it either - we feel terrible seeing you outside in the cold, and it is much easier and more efficient to treat your pet when you come inside with them and we can discuss their health together face to face. But CTVRC's unfortunate experience demonstrates *why* we have continued to follow such a strict approach. Our team has such specialized training and is so integrated that if one shift is exposed to COVID-19 and has to quarantine, we don't have a complete unexposed backup team that can keep our appointments and surgeries running, and our clinic would have to close - an outcome we are doing everything possible to avoid, due to the severely negative impact it would have on our sick, injured and emergency patients. CTVRC's team has been very careful, and unfortunately you never know where an exposure will come from, so all any clinic can do is reduce their team's potential exposure as much as possible, be careful and responsible when staff are away from work, and hope good luck will keep us safe. We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding, and we hope you will join us in sending best wishes to the caring team at CTVRC. ** 24/7 Emergency and Referral (Specialist) Clinics ** - VEC Toronto (downtown) - 416-920-2002 920 Yonge St (entrance at rear on McMurrich) - Animal Health Partners (North York) - 416-380-7400 1 Scarsdale Road (DVP & 401) - Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital 905-829-9444, 2285 Bristol Circle (Oakville) * Overnight/Holiday Emergency Care Only (limited diagnostics) * - Veterinary Emergency Hospital of West Toronto - (416) 239-3453, 150 Norseman St (Etobicoke)

Happy holidays! Please note our special hours, and the contact info for several clinics open 24-7 over the holidays. ***FOOD and MEDICATION order processing times will be much longer over the holidays, due to supplier and distributor closures. Please submit your medication refill requests and food orders as early as possible, as there are current delays of up to a week beyond regular processing times, and we don't want any pets to run out over the holidays. Stay warm and have a safe holiday season!

Roncy Village Veterinary Clinic 14.12.2020

Just a quick reminder to get your food and medication orders in FAR in advance during the holiday season! Shipping is extremely delayed for compounded medications in particular due to holiday shipping volumes - some packages are taking 10 days or more to arrive at our clinic once they have been shipped by the pharmacy. We are doing our best to process prescription requests quickly, but unfortunately have no control over how long they spend in transit, so please submit your orders a few weeks before you expect to run out - we don’t want any pets running out of essential medications or medical diets over the holidays!

...what really happens when your pet is inside with us for their appointment (i.e. we spoil them)! Our new patient Snickers had a blast tonight getting cuddles from everyone and convincing RVT Tina to keep the treats coming!

7 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR PETS HAPPY & SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN! 1. Keep your cats safely INSIDE today, and keep both cats and dogs secured in a room far away from the action at the front door. 2. Keep your pets away from chocolate.... 3. Candies and candy wrappers are also unsafe; candy can contain the toxic-to-pets sweetener xylitol, and candy wrappers can cause life-threatening intestinal obstructions if ingested. 4. Boxes of raisins are a healthier alternative to give out than candy, but they are poisonous to dogs and must be kept out of their reach. 5. Cats and dogs are drawn to anything interesting that they can chew, so glowsticks pose a threat - put them away in a drawer or on a high shelf when not wearing them. 6. All the noise and activity of Halloween can trigger anxiety responses in pets keep them in a quiet, closed room or covered crate during trick-or-treating hours so they don’t get agitated or run out the open door. 7. If your pets are resisting dress-up time, respect their preference not to wear a costume. If you’re absolutely certain that your animals don’t mind getting dressed up for Halloween, make sure that there are no dangly items like bells or buttons on their costumes that they may potentially choke on. And remember that your pets may not recognize you in costume! \We wish you and your pets a safe and enjoyable COVID-distanced Halloween!
