CRA Reminder. Don't forget everyone, the last day to file your 2019 tax return is Sept. 30, 2020. If you have not filed yet it is extremely important to file now. The CRA needs your income information to calculate some of the following items: Old Age Security - Guaranteed Income Supplement... Child Care Benefits - If you do not file, you could miss your Nov. payment and any month going forward until you file your 2019 tax return. Because what you get is based on your prior year's income. HST Rebates - If you qualify for HST rebates, and haven't filed yet, you have already missed your July payment. Next payment is in Oct. They will pay you back payments missed, but you have to file to get those. Trillium Benefits - Sales Tax and Rent/Property Tax Rebates - Same situation as HST, but this is a monthly payment, so you already missed July, Aug & Sept.. File, and they will give you back pay on these payments as well. These are just a few of the things to consider, not to mention, that if you owe money, the interest and late filing penalties kick in on Oct. 1st. Some very important news from the CRA. They are back in business. So if you were in the middle of an audit, or a re-assessment, a business review, etc., all of these have been on hold during the pandemic. Well now they are back, and will possibly be notifying you by either phone or by letter. So be very careful if you get a call, to determine if indeed this is the CRA and not a scammer. Do yourself a favor and take a few minutes to read this shared posting. You might thank us... later. If you need any assistance with your tax needs, please contact us at: [email protected] or check us out at Ron Evans Enterprises Facebook page.

Update #5: Conclusion Other information returns, elections, designations and information requests: Unless otherwise noted, the following applies to other information returns, elections, designations and information requests that are due.... Penalties and interest will not be applied if information returns, elections, designations, and information requests are filed and payments are made by September 1, 2020. The waiver of penalties and interest for 2019 T1 individual returns and trust returns also applies to form T1135 and any elections, forms and schedules that must be filed with the return, provided that they are filed by September 1, 2020. For 2019 T2 corporate returns, the extension of the filing deadline applies for all purposes. In particular, the extension also applies to form T106, T1135, and any elections, forms and schedules that must be filed with the corporate return. If you have any question surrounding these latest updates from the CRA, please do not hesitate to contact us at Ron Evans Enterprises [email protected] Stay Safe Everyone!! https://www.facebook.com/ronsplace2006/?eid=ARDRztn4i3IKU_RlIPiEsKYNJHo5uTK0kkQhwU01XWGj0Xoqij0WYrNH0yXh1uQiQZgmf1puMUgmEMzo

Update #4: TRUST DEADLINES The filing date for the current tax year (including the associated T3 information return) for trusts that would otherwise have a filing due date on March 31, or in April or May 2020, is extended to September 1, 2020. Similar to corporations, it appears that the previously extended deadline of June 1 for returns due after March 18 and before June 1 is not being extended.... Update #3 - Corporate Tax Deadlines Corporations that would otherwise have a filing deadline in June, July, or August 2020 would have their deadline extended to September 1, 2020. CRA Announcement #2 There was a question as to whether self-employed filers (and their spouses) would enjoy a waiver of late filing penalties as well. CRA updated their website today to confirm that the same relief would be provided: Penalties (including late-filing penalties) and interest will not be applied if returns are filed and payments are made by September 1, 2020. ... Note, however, that no further extension to GST/HST return deadlines have been announced, so it appears the annual GST return required by many self-employed individuals still needs to be filed by June 30, 2020. Make sure to check back on the CRA deadline listing page for any changes. A Flurry of new announcements from the CRA Today. I will share that info on multiple postings for your information. Please feel free to comment on our updates. First Up: PERSONAL TAX DEADLINE... T1 late-filing penalties will not be charged if returns are filed and payments are made by September 1, 2020. Some have asked if this was a typo. It was not. However, it is important to note that the actual deadline has not been changed to September 1, 2020. What is the difference between an actual extension of the deadline and CRA simply stating that they will not assess late-filing penalties? The returns would still be late, however, the primary disincentive (late-filing penalties) would be removed if all conditions are met. We received this today from the CRA. As announced by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, on May 15, 2020, the CRA has extended benefit payments until the end of September for those who are unable to file their 2019 tax return on time. For individuals who already receive the Canada child benefit, the GST/HST credit, or both, their estimated payments will be based on the information from their 2018 tax return. In addition, as noted in the Prime Min...ister’s News Release on May 12, 2020, this also applies to temporarily extending GIS and Allowance payments if seniors’ 2019 income information has not been assessed. This will ensure that the most vulnerable population continues to receive their benefits when they need them the most. If you are unable to file your clients’ 2019 return in time for it to be assessed by early September 2020, the estimated benefits and/or credits will stop in October 2020. Your client will then be advised to repay the estimated amounts that were issued to them starting in July 2020. The CRA encourages Canadians to file their tax returns by June 1, 2020 or as soon as possible in order to receive the right amount of benefits based on their 2019 tax return, and in order to ensure continuity of benefits beyond September 2020 If you need more info, please feel free to contact us: [email protected] Stay Safe Everyone!!

Collecting CERB??? Employers who wish to increase their employees weekly earnings while they are unemployed have the flexibility to top-up CERB benefits up to this amount in lieu of a SUB plan. However, individuals who receive income from employment, including top-ups, in excess of $1,000 over each four week period for which they claim the CERB would have to repay CERB amounts they received for the same benefit period.... CRA has just clarified that: Penalties and interest will not be charged if payments are made by the extended deadlines of September 1, 2020. This includes the late-filing penalty as long as the return is filed by September 1, 2020. Also: If you, your spouse, or your common-law partner are self-employed, you still have until June 15, 2020, to file your taxes. However, your payment deadline has also been extended to September 1, 2020.... Despite this, remember that a lot of benefits like CCB, HST & Trillium are calculated on June 15th. So if you file in June, you do risk the chance of missing your July payment from these programs. They will eventual pay you, but they will be delayed. So, if you have not filed yet, I encourage you to do so. Attention Seniors!! With the government's announcement today that seniors who collect OAS will be getting a one time payment of $300.00 and if they are getting GIS they will receive an additional $200.00. These payments will be TAX FREE. No mention however, the exact date this is going to happen.... Also, please note they are encouraging seniors to get their 2019 tax returns filed ASAP to ensure they hit their payment cycles for the balance of 2020 which starts in July. IMPORTANT TAX INFO!! Hope everyone is staying safe as we continue to flatten the Coronavirus curve. To all of our valued customers, many of you for the first time, we thank you for trusting us with your taxation needs. ... We have been unbelievably busy as will fill a void left by a number of tax offices being closed, especially those in local malls. We hope that we were able to give you an affordable and professional solution to getting your tax returns prepared and sent to the CRA. As most of you know, the tax filing deadline has been extended from April 30th. to June 1st. and any balance owing must be paid by Sept. 1st. However, I think it is important to tell you all that most of the social programs associated with your tax return filings, are still aligned to that April 30th deadline. For example, Child Care Benefit, GST/HST Rebates & Trillium Benefits. The new cycle for these benefits start paying in July. But how much you get is set long before that date. So if you wait until June 1st to file your 2019 tax return, you could miss out on the first payment in July. You won't lose the money, they will eventually get it to you, but for people counting on those July payments, this could have a negative affect on you. So, please get your tax info together and have your 2019 tax return processed ASAP. Also, please remember that if you are getting paid through any of the aid packages put out by the Federal Government, like EI and the CERB for example, this money is taxable income. Any questions on this or any other tax related matters, please feel free to contact us - [email protected] Thank You and Stay Safe!!I https://www.facebook.com/ronsplace2006/?eid=ARDkSBcGWp0w2A1ML-F5m-GVw7DLy09Kbd2MEp26vWSXiMPFL6SBAiBhe8mdR-mCnB6TAkOsIcz2GQlO

COVID UPDATE #11 A couple of things to remember if you are applying for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). 1) Make sure you are set up on the CRA My Account... 2) Make sure you get set up, if not already, for Direct Deposit with CRA 3) Apply for the benefit on the day assigned to you. When you apply is based on your month of birth: Jan., Feb., Mar. - Monday (today) Apr., May, June - Tuesday July, Aug., Sept. - Wednesday Oct., Nov., Dec. - Thursday ANY MONTH - Friday, Saturday, Sunday It is important we do this so the CRA system does not crash as a result of the backlog. 4) If possible have a copy of your 2018 tax return close by. They may ask you to provide a figure from a line on your last year's tax return to confirm your income. For all our clients, if you can not locate your last year's return email me and I will forward you a copy. For all of our clients who have reached out to us for info on how to apply for EI or the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit, I can offer this. Here is a message I got from a client who applied for EI last week: Hey Ron!... Sorry for the late response. Just wanted to let you know I was able to apply for EI. The whole process took about an hour, which I think was only because the servers are so busy and it took about 5 minutes to load each page. My main complaint is that when applying for this they don’t have something on their home page, instead it’s under a sub-heading called Regular Benefits. Not easy to find for most people! I would also tell your clients to have their direct deposit info ready before starting the process. Also not sure now if my application will automatically go to the new package that the prime minister is implementing? But we will see! Stop... We hope this provides you with a little more info, especially the Direct Deposit piece. Stay tuned, we ill try our best to keep you as updated as possible. Tax Tips - Do's & Don'ts. DO: The CRA recently announced there are a number of cheques they issued over the years that remain uncashed by countless numbers of Canadians.... If you have set up an online My Account with the CRA, you can check a feature "Uncashed Cheques" to see if you have any of them. You must have a My Account set up to access this. Go to Canada.ca and set up yours now so you can see if you have any of these uncashed cheques. I found one, from 2008. DON'T: Are you a member of a Board of Directors?? Whether for a private company or a non profit organization?? If so you are responsible to ensure your company or organization is making all your necessary payments to the CRA. If they are not, then you could be personally liable for any non payments and/or penalties that can not be recouped from that said company or organization. So, don't just take the word of an employee or volunteer colleague, ask for those financial statements.
