Tax Tip of the Day: The cost of public transit passes is still deductible in 2017. Make sure to keep your passes for January 2017-June 2017 as the public transit amounts for those periods are still eligible. However, the credit was phased out as of July 1, 2017, therefore, any amounts after July 1, 2017 are not eligible to be claimed on the 2017 personal tax return. There will be a new Seniors' Public Transit Tax Credit for individuals 65 years and older. Eligible transit expenses incurred after July 1, 2017 can be claimed for the credit. www.roohicpa.com
