Rosebay Hill Farm kindly asks that anyone who does not board/own/train at the facility to please stay home. We also will not be accepting new clients until this has resolved. Thank You Knowledge is power when it comes to combatting infectious disease. Equine Herpes Virus 1 (EHV-1) Neuropathogenic strain, is present in the area.... We remind everyone that proper biosecurity is the first and most important step. Ensure anyone coming or going from the barn is not traveling between farms without changing clothing and cleaning or changing boots. On farm, taking rectal temperatures twice daily, and monitoring for any signs of the virus like nasal discharge, cough, or limb swelling is important. Call your veterinarian if you see any of these signs. Any horses arriving to the farm should be quarantined for 14 days to prevent transfer of diseases including, but not limited to herpes. There is no vaccine specifically for the neuropathogenic strain of equine herpes, but ensuring your horse has had a herpes (commonly called rhino) vaccine in the last 6 months may be helpful in preventing or reducing severity of disease.
