We don’t mean staring at your audience like you’re trying to delve into their souls. When done effectively, eye contact can pull your audience in, and get their attention while you’re speaking. Try scanning the room and making eye contact with everyone for a second or two.

Take the time to get to know who you’re speaking to as part of your speech crafting process. After all, you wouldn’t want to give a speech about advanced biochemistry if you’re talking in front of a gym full of elementary students. Last Thursday we had an incredible first meeting back and even a special guest in our Area Director, Novelette Gordon! Our very own insanely talented Toastmasters Dianne Yungblut and Greg Lewis gave amazing speeches that kicked off our year on the highest note possible.
