Rose Walker Aromatherapy

The past few days a post has come up with the message (paraphrasing): "A mother will change her entire life for her children". And when this came to my feed I clicked on it and reposted it. It dawned on me today that when I read that post the first thing that came to mind was my own children, so it rang true. But, "children" can mean many things! Animals for one, a child can be an adopted child, a foster child, someone who we see as "our child" even though there are no geneti...c ties to us. Think about it - we (hopefully) love, nourish, and sacrifice so our children are prepared for life, to fulfill their life. But we can also do this for anyone. For myself, this is a real-life fact as I was adopted. And although it was a challenging experience (I was 8 years old and sent to a foreign country), looking back, this experience stamped my life in so many wonderful ways! And I hope to continue the thread, not just with my own family, but those who come to me, even if it is for a short while. :) See more

Driving home this morning in the snow I realized it has been almost one year since the start of the pandemic. Quiet on the roads, I reflected how much my client had progressed in her health and fitness this past year. There have been many challenges, but also some positive progressions! And right now I choose to focus on those: time for myself, to learn, read, meditate. Moving in a new direction which will help me in my work as well as my personal life. All of the new people ...I have met on ZOOM! - and being challenged to become more proficient with the computer! Something I had, up to now, studiously been avoiding! A few days ago I was speaking with someone over the phone and our conversation was positive and uplifting! And I choose now to do the same. Yes, we still have challenges and who knows what is coming in the next few months, but it helps to know that we can rise above this. Not by pretending the challenges are not there, but by our actions - kindness, empathy, knowing that we are strong. As I was waiting for my physio appointment a Reader's Digest caught my eye. "Anger" was the subject of the article, something I have been working on. So I began... reading it. Anger is an important lesson for me, it is important because I didn't know how to deal with it, so stuffing it away and pretending I was calm, cool and collected was the order of the day. Until... something happened. Usually some minor incident, and.. BAM! Volcano time! It becomes easy and habitual when you do it long enough, and I have had a lot of practice, and there are lots of ashes strewn around in my past (people I have hurt, cut myself off from). But here was the eye-opener for me. I can only feel as much joy (and other positive emotions) to the extent I feel and acknowledge anger, grief, and all of the other emotions we experience! So, if I stuff my anger, grief, regrets and rage, I am also stuffing my other, positive emotions. This wonderful insight I learned through my teacher. So my homework right now is, whenever I feel angry, to step back and observe. Figure out WHY I feel angry, and then, calmly deal with the person or situation. And anyone who is working on learning more about themselves will probably chuckle, because as soon as I said yes to this exercise - I am now getting lots of practice!
