I dont post much but I will be standing in solidarity with my pharmacist colleagues to help raise awareness to this important (and worsening) situation so you...ll likely see a few posts from me this week. As pharmacists, it is hard to provide pharmaceutical care to our patients without the actual pharmaceuticals. But pharmacists are spending more and more of our time working with patients to find alternatives to what they were originally prescribed. It may be an ongoing prescription used to manage a chronic condition such as high blood pressure or depression or it may be a vaccine for an upcoming vacation. The fact is that drug shortages are happening more now than ever before and they are negatively impacting patient care and the efficiency of our healthcare system across Canada. As an example, when my pharmacy received our order today, over 30% of the products we ordered didnt show up because they are currently unavailable. The reasons for these shortages vary and are complex but Im sure if you ask your pharmacist about how drug shortages are impacting patient care, theyll have a few things to say. #abdrugshortage #ableg #hardtopharmacist See more

Dont toss it. Dont flush it. Dont Save it. Throwing medication in the trash or flushing it down the toilet is harmful to the environment. Medications that ar...e flushed or poured down the drain can end up polluting our waters, impacting aquatic species, and contaminating our water supply. Most medications are not removed by the wastewater treatment plant process. It is free to drop off unused medications the pharmacy. Look for the ENVIRx drug disposal program at your local pharmacy. reddeer.ca/medreturn
