MarketWATCH Muskoka: 30 September 2020 Definitely early this year ... fall colours are ablaze! It's also a time when stags and bull moose are more active, not to mention tom turkeys charging cars. Autumn. This week is classic. Warm days, cool nights, gentle breezes. Morning mists, glasslike waters and no bugs. Perfect for paddle boarding, taking the kayak out or just soaking in dock time. It's a time to decompress and marvel. Leaves are starting to turn. There's the occasional flash of brilliant red as one errant branch takes the lead against a backdrop of dark green. I almost forgot, that mid century cottage we were talking about last week with 5 offers? It sold at 30% over ask... And even at that it was a good buy. The last week of summer. For some, cottaging is becoming a memory. Last week a delightful 3 bed cottage with bunkie came to market. The land level and welcoming, with shelving rock across its shore. The view, wide open, graced by sunsets. At 150 of lakefront the property wouldn’t be considered large, but with neighbours on both sides at the far ends of theirs, it felt like 350. Privacy assured! The building was erected in 1959 and owned by the same family the whole time. Mo...re than 60 years of memories. Not large and definitely not current, it was still a nice year round space that harkened back to the mid-century with genuine design touches, that if not to be treasured, then certainly to be remembered. The view? Timeless. By the end of the first day, there were 2 offers. By next afternoon there were 5. I’m sure the sellers were pleased by the response which must have made leaving a little easier. The question, though, remains unanswered. How much over ask did it go for? Great properties are hard to come by. MARKETWATCH MUSKOKA: 10 SEPTEMBER 2020 Wow! And just like that, the seasons have changed. Lakes are cooling, leaves are turning and the golden days are upon us. Farmers' markets are full of late summer produce. We have yet to sample a crisp fall apple. But it won't be long! September brings an interesting mix of properties to market. People leaving the lake for the last time sometimes list cottages that have been in the family for generations. This is the time of year 'old or...iginals' bloom. It's also the time of year when sellers decide they don't want to carry a cottage over the next winter. Closing dates can be important in a negotiation. As well, we find properties that have been renovated and groomed over the summer months, looking their best. Early fall for cottages is a lot like the farmers' markets. There's usually more to choose from than in summer and many of the choices are lush and ripe, full of interest. Tasty. Take a look at this week's offerings...
