Last night I had the great honour to break in master luthier Kai Arvi's most recent instrument - it was completed only days before, and still had that "new bass smell"! His beautiful double bass was one of the finest I've ever had the good fortune to wield. Not only was it stunningly beautiful, but it played like butter and sounded warm and rich.
