Rosthern Fire and Rescue attended a gas leak this morning in town with 2 trucks and 6 members. All appears to be repaired and good to go. Thanks to the Town of Rosthern & SaskEnergy for doing their part. Also thanks to Golf in the Alley for supplying some snacks and for Leonard at King's Chicken & Pizza for supplying lunch. Makes us feel loved!... Just a reminder winter is strange. Clear around the hydrants for us, make sure your home gets clear of ice; it can cause damage. Also ensure your vents are clear of ice and snow.

Today is National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims Did you know that distracted driving is a factor in almost 1 in 4 fatal crashes in Canada? Two seconds of distraction doubles your risk of a collision. Today, in recognition of National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims 2020 we are posting on Rosthern Fire and Rescue to make road safety a priority. It's a day to remember, and give a voice to road crash victims. ... "I lost a piece of myself the day of the crash and I often wonder how different my life would be if it hadn't happened," shares 18-year-old Kylee Bowman, artist and daughter of Canadian Coalition on Distracted Driving co-chair, Karen Bowman. "I realize we may not know the difference we make, even just by speaking up, but I am 100% sure that if we don't at least try, we won't make any difference." A crash survivor at just 8-years-old, Kylee's 2020 original art piece, The Road, is a powerful visual representation of the impact of PTSD on her life since the 2011 collision.

Bit of a Public Service announcement MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR FURNACE VENTS CLEAR OF SNOW In the middle of winter, the last thing you want is for your Furnace to go out. With the possibility of a large amount of snow in the forecast, and the two coldest months ahead, it is important to make sure your Furnace vents outside your home are free of snow. These pipes are generally a white PVC material. Furnaces can shut off entirely because these vents are blocked with snow or ice ... this is simply a safety mechanism. Without the proper ventilation, carbon monoxide can build up inside your home. The blockage of your vents will also decrease your energy efficiency. It is important to keep your Furnace vents clear and here’s some tips how to do it. CLEARING SNOW AWAY FROM VENT During and after this coming snowfall, check outside to make sure the vents are clear. If there is a snow buildup blocking the vent, we recommend removing the snow by hand to avoid damaging the vent pipe. Use caution when clearing the vent pipe as there may be an ice build up hidden under the snow attached to the pipe. CLEARING ICE OFF VENT If there is an ice buildup, do your best to scrap it off with a plastic putty knife. Shine a flashlight inside the pipe to inspect if there is any more ice. Sometimes, these pipes will have a stainless steel screen at the end. If your pipes are equip with the screens, be certain to inspect them during cold spells and snow storms. These can be problematic as the moisture freezes over the mesh and creates a blockage. Even if your Furnace is running normally, it is a good idea to check your vents during a snow storm
