In the midst of a devastating global pandemic, we are grateful to be able to celebrate a milestone that Rotarians across the world have been working towards for decades. On August 25, the World Health Organisation’s AFRICAN REGION is expected to be OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED FREE OF WILD POLIOVIRUS. This certification will come four years after Nigeria the last polio-endemic country in Africa recorded its final case of wild polio and marks a major step toward global eradication... of the virus. And it will mean that five of the six WHO regions representing over 90% of the world’s population will have eliminated wild polio. To mark the milestone, there will be a virtual livestream event, featuring speakers including WHO Director General Dr. Tedros, Bill Gates, and others.
