Thanks to Rotarian's and guests who donated, walked and promoted World Polio Day. The Rotary Club of North Bay raised $1,500, but just as important, took the opportunity to enjoy an activity with friends either as a participant in our North Bay social distanced walk, or on their own where ever they might have been.

FACE SHIELDS FUNDRAISER The Rotary Club of Nipissing is delighted to be a distributor for the ProtectON Face Shields a wonderful alternative or add-on to face...masks. These shields are made locally (Corbeil, Ontario) within Rotary District 7010, with materials purchased from within Ontario. They are made using environmentally-friendly materials and processes. ProtectOn face shields can be safely sterilized and reused in clinical, professional, industrial or personal settings. These shields reduce PPE costs and ensure Canadians are protected in a sustainable manner. We are pleased to offer these face shields for $15 each (taxes in). One Day,One Focus, Ending Polio - https://www.endpolio.org/ District 7010 Polio Eradication Challenge - https://clubrunner.blob.core.windows.net//World-Polio-D...ay- World Polio Day was established by Rotary International to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, the medical researcher who led the first team to develop a vaccine against polio. He developed the inactivated polio virus vaccine which came into use in 1955, after which Albert Sabine developed the oral vaccine that came into use in 1961. World Polio Day has been observed for over a decade. It is a day to celebrate the great accomplishments achieved in eradicating the Polio virus. The most recent milestone being the declaration that as of August of this year the African continent has been declared free of the wild Polio virus. We also use this day to thank the thousands of healthcare workers and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to vaccinate children, often at great risk to their lives. Currently only two countries have the wild Polio virus, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The infrastructure created by Rotary and its partners have been used to help eradicate other chronic diseases such as Measles, Ebola and currently Covid-19. The World Polio theme this October 2020 is Stories of Progress: Past and Present.
