Rotary Club of Nanaimo 21.11.2020

Today is National Philanthropy Day! The National Philanthropy Day Act was enacted by the Government of Canada in November 2012 - the first country to officially recognize this special day. National Philanthropy Day celebrates and honours the dedicated work of caring individuals and organizations that devote themselves to improving the lives of others and bringing people together to serve a common goal. For 100 years, members of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo have been volunteering, fundraising, donating and working together to make a positive impact in our community and around the world. Thank you Rotarians for your service and commitment! #serviceaboveself #peopleofaction #NationalPhilanthropyDay #givingback #nanaimo #vancoverisland #rotary #rotaryinternational

The Rotary Club of Nanaimo honours those who have served Canada, past and present, in times of war and peace. We acknowledge the sacrifices so many made while they fought for the rights and freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you. The Rotary Club of Nanaimo funded a new gathering space in the park that celebrates 100 years of Rotary in Nanaimo. The garden features a circular design, inspired by the intertidal shoreline, bordered by benches and pergolas, and provides a peaceful space for our community members and visitors alike to connect and reflect. Construction was completed in September. Learn more about the park on our website at https://portal.clubrunner.ca//rotary-centennial-peace-gard

Welcome to our newest member, Tim Oben! Born and raised in Ontario, Tim lived on Canada's east coast, and in California, before settling in Nanaimo in 2017. He worked as a Child Protection Officer prior to being accepted at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design ("Emily Carr East") in the late 1990s. Upon graduation, Tim started and grew a successful photography business in Halifax. A lifelong belief in the benefits of volunteerism led to various community-support volunteer ro...les, including client intake worker (Daily Bread Food Bank), literacy coach (Peel Literacy Services), adult program instructor (Halifax Parks and Recreation), and shelter dog technician (Tri-Valley Animal Rescue/Muttville Senior Dog Shelter). The short time already spent with Rotary in Nanaimo has been enjoyable and rewarding, said Tim. I look forward to many years of service with the Club.
