Wreaths placed at Richmond Hill's Cenotaph (McConaghy Centre - Yonge St.), in preparation for Wednesday's controlled service. Thanks to our support staff: Hanshu & Pearl. Extra wreath stands available at site for individuals or groups to place their own wreaths.

The Royal Canadian Legion Banner Program. To clarify misinformation that is floating around social media we thought we should re-state the criteria of our program. A Banner can be requested for: "all who have served or are serving, whether in war, peacekeeping or peacetime". Each of the banners currently displayed on Yonge Street adhere to this rule.... If you have family members or friends that meet our criteria, please feel free to participate. We actively solicit participation between January and July each year and the Banner will be placed on Yonge Street from mid October until after November 11. They will then be taken down and stored by the Legion and placed back up the following year (for 3 years). The Banner will then be returned to the Family/Sponsor. Cost per Banner is approximately $150, and with that we also host an unveiling dinner and provide the sponsor with a few 'bookmark' copies of their banner.

It has obviously become necessary for us to cancel this year's Remembrance Day parade and scale back the cenotaph service. While traditionally we pay our respects at 11am we cannot have more than 25 people onsite so are proposing a compromise to allow access in a safe manner throughout the day and week. We ask that anyone wishing to place a wreath or poppy, visit the memorial anytime during daylight hours while observing the guidelines below. We also intend to video the serv...ice on the 11th and make it available on Facebook and Youtube. The onsite service will be by invitation only. Guidelines: 1. Anyone wishing to place a wreath or poppy may visit the cenotaph anytime during daylight hours. 2. We ask that you do not visit between 10:45am and 11:30am on November 11, to allow for a short Legion Remembrance service. 3. Social distancing must be observed, if there is anyone present in the wreath area of the cenotaph please wait. 4. Groups must not exceed the numbers mandated by the Province and/or City of Richmond Hill (currently set at 25 maximum) 5. Each group has a maximum of 15 minutes, please respect this time allowance.
