The Royal Canadian Legion Huntsville Branch 232, would like to thank the many volunteers who help get the 2nd Annual Lake Vernon Fishing Derby arranged and for chosing the Legion as the recipient to benefit from this event.. The profits from this very successful fundraiser were donated to the Huntsville Legion in the amount of $6,064.75. The event was kicked off with a day of fishing, and back to the Legion for a silent action, and of course an excellent spaghetti dinner prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary. I would like to especially thank Shelbie Groomes for her great organization skills and for working with us to help coordinate the day after the fishing. Again, thank you so much for the generous donation and for the support you showed the Royal Canadian Legion.
Always a great morning when the President of the Royal Canadian Legion Huntsville Branch 232 - Bruce Frank comes for a visit.

A message from the President of Branch 232 Huntsville. The Royal Canadian Legion is taking the unprecedented step of discouraging Canadians from attending Remembrance Day ceremonies this year as COVID-19 upends the traditional ways of honouring those who sacrificed their lives for Canada. Legion branches across the country are scrambling to plan stripped-down versions of the annual sombre ceremonies on Nov. 11 as many local governments restrict large-scale gatherings due to t...he rising number of new COVID-19 cases. Remembrance Day at the Royal Canadian Legion, Huntsville is no less important in 2020just the format of the day will be different. A private service has been planned with only 25 people in attendance to allow for social distancing and to ensure that the numbers remain within the Health Department guidelines. This will be an indoor service to honour our veterans and their families; those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the Canadian Veterans who have fallen in the service of our Nation; those currently serving in the Canadian Forces and are in areas of conflict or taking part in operations to maintain peace, and those that have returned home and require our assistance. This year's Remembrance Day Service for the Town of Huntsville will be virtual in order to adhere to public health restrictions on large gatherings and manage the spread of COVID-19. There will be no cenotaph service, there will be no parade, and there will be no public wreathing laying. On Nov. 11, the public can watch the service starting at 10:30 a.m. on Cogeco or online on our Facebook page at Royal-Canadian Legion Huntsville Branch 232. As the pandemic has prevented us from gathering together in person, it is more important than ever to honour our veterans and military members and their families by attending virtual Remembrance Day events and by wearing red poppies in honour of those who served and sacrificed their future to protect the freedom of our country. Stand in silence at 11 a.m. for 2 minutes and pay your respects to all our veterans. Again, we encourage community members to come together online to reflect and remember the thousands of brave Canadians. See more

Comrades a message from the President of Branch 232 Huntsville, Royal Canadian Legion. Just a little note to let you know that we are still not open to bar service or food. We are financially stable and keeping our expenses to a minimum. As we are classified as a Bar/Restaurant the restrictions are very stringent. If we were to open at this time we would be operating at a loss daily; our accounts would be quickly depleted. We will reopen when we can show a profit while r...emain socially distanced. The Executive and Ladies Auxiliary with the help of volunteers are still doing what we can for our veterans. This includes monthly take out lunches, surprise goodie bags, or just an ear to listen. The rules are changing day to day and sometimes by the hour. When I know what is happening we will announce it on the radio stations and here on our Facebook page. Any questions you can reach Bruce at 705-571-5425. We wish to ensure everyone that the Branch is safe and we guarantee that we will open as soon as feasibly possible. Please reach out if you have any questions and we would like to thank all the members who have made donations to the branch during this difficult times to ensure that we have help when it is needed. On May 5, a brief memorial was held at Huntsville’s cenotaph for Master Corporal Matthew Cousins, son-in-law of local residents Rick and Marion Boddy. Cousins w...as among the crew members aboard a Canadian military helicopter that went down in the Mediterranean Sea during exercises on April 29. Huntsville residents lined Veterans Way, standing beside their vehicles for the short service, and then followed an OPP escort around the block to honour Cousins and show support for the Boddys.
