Royal City Curling Club 21.01.2021

Hello Curlers: I would like to start out by wishing you all a Happy New Year and hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with some sort of excitement, whether a virtual party or turkey dinner that looked a little smaller than normal. Today, I write to inform you that in consultation with Club Management the Board of Directors have made the difficult decision to end regular curling for the season and take out our ice effective Monday, January 11th, 2021. ... There is no question the COVID-19 landscape has been challenging for everyone. Continued Provincial restrictions on adult sport that impact our curling rink have made it even more challenging for our club. Our Board of Directors have assessed the current landscape from all angles and believe that based on the likelihood of continued restrictions until a vaccine program has reached herd immunity, that this is the right decision for our club, our members, and our community. I can assure you our club remains in a sound financial position and these efforts are an attempt to mitigate the extent of our projected 2020/2021 deficit. I would like to thank and recognize our amazing staff at Royal City led by our Manager Mike Munsie, our head ice maker Ken McArdle and his ice crew, the office staff and bar staff, our cleaning crew, Golly in the kitchen, our volunteer board of directors, and most importantly our membership and curlers for the collective efforts that make our club the best. As we move forward our club will continue to assess the COVID-19 landscape and find ways to utilize our facility to continue to engage with our membership. I sincerely thank you for your patience and support this season and wish you all the best until we can provide you a further update in the coming months. Reimbursements: Royal City is committed to fairness and will be arranging some form of optional reimbursement program for partial league dues. Our Club Management will be working through this and will communicate more within the next 7-10 business days. In closing, I want to assure you there are big things planned for Royal City! We will all get through this chapter together, we will be back on the ice next season, and we will be ready to showcase our amazing club! Until we connect again in the coming months, thank you and stay safe! Any questions or concerns can be directed to [email protected]. Kind regards, Stephen Kopf Club President

Hello curlers, On November 23rd, 2020, Dr. Bonnie Henry through a Q&A session on TV clarified the travel restrictions and how they apply to sports like curling at RCCC. Individual travel between communities is now permitted to where your home club is domiciled. For example, if you live in Vancouver and curl at RCCC, that is okay. What is not okay, is an RCCC domiciled team, up and travelling to curl in a bonspiel in Richmond, for example.... In light of this news effective immediately curlers in the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (Vancouver, Richmond, North Shore) are now permitted back to curl at RCCC. Please be patient and allow some time for your league coordinators to communicate next steps as there has already been a lot of work put into temporary accommodations. We will now need to pivot back and welcome back all curlers. Please ensure you familiarize yourself with our updated safety guidelines which were communicated a few weeks ago. Curl B.C. confirmation: https://www.curlbc.ca/mask-and-travel-update/. Thank you all for your patience while we continue to learn and understand these ongoing changes to the restrictions. Please continue to direct any questions or concerns to [email protected]. Thank you, Stephen Kopf Club President Michael Munsie Club Manager

Please read this important update regarding curlers who live in the Vancouver Coastal Health region Hello Curlers, ... In follow up from yesterday’s communication here is some additional information to help clarify RCCC’s re-opening plan for tomorrow Friday November 13th. Although Dr. Henry announced curling being exempt from the indoor activities order, the second order regarding restricted travel between health authorities does impact curlers at RCCC. Curlers that reside inside the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (Richmond, Vancouver, North Shore) would not be eligible to curl at RCCC until after Noon on Monday November 23rd. Curlers will be responsible to adhere to this order. RCCC will plan to open tomorrow November 13th for regular curling and practice. We recognize this will impact some leagues that have curlers living inside the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. League coordinators are encouraged to assess if they can field a league or opt to start after the November 23rd date. There will be a follow up communication to all league coordinators by end of day with all of our updated guidelines. In the meantime attached is a link to the Provincial Health Order as well as Curl BC’s announcement. Any further questions or concerns regarding this communication please reach out to [email protected]. Thank you, Stephen Kopf Club President Michael Munsie Club Manager

Finally some good news! Please read the following update about our new reopening date. Hello Curlers, Firstly, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and remember our heroic Veterans for their service. ... As many of you know Dr. Henry has clarified the recent Provincial Health Order (PHO) to say curling can continue. Considering this as well as additional safety measures being implemented, RCCC will re-open on Friday November 13th for regular operation. Our office will provide all curlers via email an updated list of all guidelines before the November 13th reopening accompanied by some additional educational material and Q&A to remind curlers how to physically distance on the ice. Please take the time to review all material when you receive the email. We are comfortable that if adhered to, the guidelines in place will allow the season to safely continue at RCCC. We look forward to having you all back. Any questions or concerns regarding this communication can be directed to [email protected]. Thank you, Stephen Kopf Club President Michael Munsie Club Manager

Hello Curlers, Considering Dr. Henry’s new provincial order regarding restrictions on indoor group activities announced today, RCCC will remain closed until Noon on Monday November 23rd, 2020 or until such time the provincial order is lifted. This temporary closure impacts all leagues, practice ice, and events.... Our Board of Directors and Club Management are committed to doing our part in supporting the order and limiting the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. Hello RCCC Curlers, We are writing to provide you an update on the COVID-19 cases at RCCC and an update on the reopening: Update of current situation:... - There are 8 COVID-19 cases associated with RCCC. We have recently been informed of 2 more cases (cases 7 & 8) associated with the Men’s evening Member league on Thursday October 22nd - In addition, case 8 also curled in the Saturday morning 8am ACT league on October 24th . - The skips of the teams that played on the sheets associated with the positive curlers have been contacted. This information has also been forwarded to Public Health. - We had planned to open Friday November 6th, however considering this new information, the Club will now be reopening for league play starting this coming Sunday November 8th . This is consistent with the 14-day incubation period for when the known cases were present at RCCC. - We continue to encourage all curlers to monitor their symptoms and call 811 should you have any further questions or concerns. We will continue to update our response based on direction from Public Health officials. We continue to hope for the swift recovery of the 8 curlers that are currently affected. Our club’s COVID committee and RCCC Management are currently working on additional safety measures which will be communicated in advance of your next scheduled league game. Any additional questions or concerns regarding this communication can be directed to [email protected]. Thank you, Stephen Kopf Club President
