If you’ve recently taken significant time away from a certain sport, and you want to get back into it again, consider the following first. During the first phase of COVID-19 many of us had spent increased time sitting around at home which creates tightness in the hip flexors, long thigh muscle, hamstrings and calves. If you’re not careful in this state, to restore the normal length of these muscles before returning to any activities that involve running, jumping or ballistic-...type movements you could be risking injury. Here are four stretches to address each of these areas. Each stretch should be held gently for 30-60 seconds and repeated 2-3 times. We will continue to offer virtual appointments through our TeleRehab platform for those who prefer to receive care from their home, or are unable to access treatment in person. As the TeleRehab appointments have been very successful and well received, we have decided to permanently add this service as an alternative to in-person treatments. TeleRehab is a proven way for those of you who are in remote areas to conveniently access high quality physiotherapy services. Despite d...oing things differently in this new normal, you can continue to expect a warm, friendly welcome as you enter our spacious clinic, and exceptional care from your practitioner. Thank you for your patience and support over the past several months and in the coming weeks as we navigate our way forward. We are very excited to be reopening our doors and look forward to seeing you soon! https://www.royalcityphysio.com/

Check out these great photos of our physio Mikaela who recently completed her own marathon! She had qualified to compete at the #BostonMarathon this year but due to #COVID19 she decided to do her own personal marathon, around Burnaby. With Stephen on his bike as support crew, as well as friends & family cheering her on, she completed the ‘race’ in an incredible 3 hours & 2 minutes. It was truly inspirational to watch her complete this amazing personal accomplishment. Congratulations Mikaela!!!

Meet Mikaela! Our newest member of the team. Mikaela moved to the West Coast from Renfrew, Ontario after completing her #physiotherapy degree at Western University. She loves to help clients reach their full potential, no matter how big the goal, and enjoys integrating her Clinical Pilates training into the sessions. She is thrilled to join the #RoyalCityPhysio family and work alongside such great people. Mikaela lives by Royal City Physio’s tag ‘keep moving!’ and loves an e...ndurance challenge! She couldn’t miss the opportunity to tackle the Seven Peaks Trail Run with the Human Powered Racing team out of Victoria, BC this summer. This was Peak 4 of 7, half way through 33 km and 1500m of elevation. What’s up next? Mikaela is in pursuit of a personal best time for her road marathon on September 13! Stay tuned!
