July 1st, 2021 Memorial Ceremony for Indigenous Children Lost and Found; the Canadian Residential Schools Tragedy.

Royal Theatre Thousand Islands 27.03.2022

In honour of the 215 children found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in BC, all Indigenous children who never made it home and residential school survi...vors and their families whose lives were changed forever, the First Peoples of the Thousand Islands Committee invites residents of Gananoque to participate in a ceremony of commemoration on Thursday, 3 June at 2:15pm. All are invited to attend the ceremony outside of Town Hall -- we ask you to come in small groups respectful of COVID-19 protocols, to wear orange and to bring medicines to create a space to honour these lost children. As part of this ceremony children’s shoes/moccasins brought by community members will be laid on the stairs outside of Town Hall. Mayor Lojko has directed that the flags at Town Hall be lowered for 215 hours, one hour for every child whose life was taken. Similar responses are being seen across the country and remind us of the ongoing legacy of residential schools and the enduring impacts of colonialism on Indigenous peoples. The First Peoples of the Thousand Islands Committee includes Indigenous community members and their allies.

Rob Bradizza and I hope that you will be able to join us for our Night at the Royal concert sponsored by the Music Performance Trust Fund, The Kingston Musici...ans Union, the Town of Gananoque and the Royal Theatre. We'll be presenting a selection of favourites from the Great American Songbook, as well as beloved movie themes, and some pop ballads that we hope will put you in a canoodling mood! Our "Songs of Romance" will sound at once familiar, but then expect a few little twists of invention along the way, as we have fun finding new ways to interpret the tried and true! This FREE livestream concert is this Thursday, September 10th, at 7:00 pm! We certainly hope you'll be able to tune in and hear what we've been working on! https://www.facebook.com/events/340916930634965/. Special thanks to Mark Wilkins, Susie Moore, and Todd Noel

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th at 7:00 pm, Rob Bradizza and I will be performing "Songs of Romance" as part of Kingston Musicians Union's livestream concert series, "...A Night at the Royal". Be sure to catch the show live! (info on the attached poster) Going through repertoire together, Rob and I had to cut a few songs from our preferred list for the restriction of time. This tune won't be part of our concert, but we wanted to share "Just the Two of Us" with you all the same... so, this is rough, but what a great song! Bill Withers had a huge hit with this 1981 Grammy award winner for Best R & B Song.

Royal Theatre Thousand Islands 10.07.2020

Our little Royal Theatre Thousand Islands in Gananoque has been shuttered since March. It's been challenging for us because, unlike most theatres that rely heav...ily on municipal, provincial and federal government funding, corporate donation programs, and patron sponsorships and endowments, the Royal Theatre does not receive any kind of operations funding. The Royal has been managing to cover overhead expenses through our box office share from performances and our fundraising efforts which are now all cancelled. So Kevin John Saylor and I are very moved and grateful to some particularly kind and generous members of our Royal Family who've reached out to support us. Quietly, without drawing attention to themselves, without expectations, people have helped in a variety of ways... and they've made such a difference and buoyed our morale. We've always said that the Royal Theatre works because of our community, and we're confident that we will overcome the challenges of this pandemic thanks to you. Meanwhile, a long list of maintenance jobs is being attended to at the theatre. Kev's latest project has been freshening up the ramps (days on his knees, filling in holes, scraping, priming and painting), and they now look pretty great! We're eager to welcome you back when the "fog" lifts and we're able to assemble in safety once more. Meanwhile, thank you for your patience and support. We're so grateful.
