Do you use TALLman lettering? TALLman lettering is a method used to assist in the differentiation of look-alike/sound-alike drug names through the application of UPPER CASE lettering to certain sections of drug names. TALLman lettering has typically been applied to syllables or groups of letters within drug names to bring attention to the points of dissimilarity between confusable names. https://www.ismp-canada.org/download//TALLman_lettering.pdf... #PatientSafetyWeek
Better communication takes work. In the sometimes complicated world of health care, paramedics are champions of explaining options to patients. For #HealthLiteracyMonth and #PatientSafetyWeek, here are simple 8 ways that we all can use right away to communicate better.
Using simple language is a strategy that can help your patients better understand their care and the care decisions they need to make. Paramedics in our region are learning more about Health Literacy this Fall so that they'll be able to use strategies like this to help patients better participate in their care.
One of the great things about paramedics reporting patient safety incidents is that we're able to then target the safety initiatives we create to actual problems that paramedics are seeing. That's a logical way to do quality and safety improvements, but without those Patient Safety Incident Reports many issues could go unrecognized. We've seen that bolstering our medication safety is a key region-wide initiative and we're now building programming to help. Online medical consultation or "patching" is another interaction where process improvements are underway. Keep those Patient Safety Incident Reports coming our way, paramedics! #PatientSafetyWeek
It's Canadian Patient Safety Week! We want to start this week with an important acknowledgement of how much caring and thought the paramedics in this region continue to put into the safety of patients, colleagues and other people. Make no mistake - COVID-19 keeps making the frontline work more challenging. We are very proud of how paramedics consider their own safety and that of their patients through these times to bring safe, quality paramedicine to patients in Eastern On...tario during a pandemic and every other day. As the World Health Organization says, provider safety is patient safety. https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-patient-safety-day/2020 Stay safe and take care, paramedics!
