A message from our best of fair student of 2018! Guillaume Gego :Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well during the tough times we’re living in. However, I have the pleasure to announce you that thanks to the recent opportunities that have been offered to me at University, I no longer need financial support to achieve my dream. This campaign, despite being short spanned, was a true source of inspiration for me. I learned that with strength and hard work, no battle is foretold to be lost, and that human solidarity is often far beyond what could ever be expected. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! I will continue to follow my path et will make my dream come true, thanks to you. See you up there, Guillaume

Hi Everyone News: Youth Science Canada (YSC) is having a virtual online YSC Online STEM Fair in May to replace the traditional Canada Wide Science Fair and the Rideau St. Lawrence Region (RSL) is planning to participate! All students from Grades 7 to 12 across Canada may enter the virtual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fair. We are hoping that some of your students who have already worked on science fair projects will be able to enter under the RSL regio...n. They would be eligible for virtual ribbons from RSL as well as YSC. It will be low stress no judging interviews this year. Tight Timelines: It looks like participants will have from May 1 to May 19 to build their project on the virtual site which is quite a short turn around. Where: The site is still in development, but it will be similar to the Make; Projects site https://makeprojects.com/home using the ProjectBoard platform in partnership with engineering.com. You might want to check this site out to have an idea of what is in the works. It appears that the YSC will be making this site available to visitors especially students and teachers too. If you have students who might be interested in participating, please let me know asap. I will be sure to send you the updates as we get them, and will post them on our website at https://www.rslsf.ca/youth-science-canada-online-stem-fair/ . We are all trying to keep up with the speedy changes that are taking place across Canada and the world. Information from Youth Science Canada with the weblink to the news item is as follows: We are aiming to open the site for the entry of projects, region and sponsor content on May 1. Projects, as well as regional fair, sponsor and STEM Expo virtual exhibits will remain private until launch day Tuesday, May 19. This will give students until the end of the Victoria Day long weekend to post projects. Promotion of the site to media and visitors will be focused on May 19-29, but the site and projects will remain beyond that period. The YSC National Judging Team is developing a project entry template to guide students and ensure that projects can be evaluated based only on the posted content. We are developing a Student Visitor Activity Guide for teachers, students and parents to support Learning at Home. In addition to encouraging students to view projects and virtual STEM Expo exhibits, the guide will ask students to identify questions or problems that interest them and that they might consider using as a topic for a project. The free PDF document in English and French will be available by registering for the fair's Learn at Home program. https://youthscience.ca//youth-science-canada-launches-onl

The Rideau St. Lawrence Science Fair is cancelled for 2020. The COVID-19 virus and the precautions we all need to take to remain healthy and safe has limited the ability to hold a Science Fair this year. Youth Science Canada also cancelled the Canada Wide Fair which was scheduled to be held in Edmonton in May. We encourage all students to continue to work on their projects in preparation for next year’s Science Fair. We appreciate all the work completed on your proje...cts and we are disappointed that the Science Fair needs to be cancelled. Rideau St. Lawrence Science Fair Committee March 18, 2020

Today is #NationalRedCabbageDay. The anthocyanins that give red cabbage its colour mean it can also be used to make a colourful pH indicator! https://www.compoundchem.com/2017/05/18/red-cabbage/
