WJASC2018 UPDATE - Day Five Hello from sunny, windy, cloudy, and pouring rain, Budapest!! Today was a huge day! #FreeTeamDay and our last day of competition w...as building up to be our best yet! With an early breakfast, the team came down with gel, make up, and looking ready for a fantastic day! Leading into a tiny bit of bus drama, we found ourselves being led through some dance activation on the street by Mik, Jaime, and Jaiden. The secret change in bus schedule was the start of a chaotic scheduling day.... more on that later! Judi’s favourite driver picked us up and literally saved the day. He showed up on the other side of the street and Isabelle was able to hop on for a quick turn around and Canadian pick up. #safetyfirst Team Canada and Apple Music entertained the bus that then picked up all the other countries that had the wrong bus schedule. We were the cool kids on the bus with the speaker;-) Standing room only! The morning schedule was a smooth and great execution practice to bring everyone back to the free team focus in the dive tank. Music practice was a bit wild with Jenn T doing a wicked job leading and attempting to keep everyone cool and calm in a large school of fish as Vero sees it;-) With a short break for snack and personal time we went into our Pre Game Prep routine. The swim was focused, strong, as and athletes were working on building their percentages on their personal correction checklists. Goal is always 100 percent for the final and the women were working for a 90 percent minimum! The strong performance brought the team just slightly below Italy for a 7th place prelim finish. #IsabelleForTheWin when they went to the Team Manager meeting for the final draw. The number four spot was ours for the final! Jenn T scheduled a fantastic and much needed rest for athletes and staff. Our #WorldClassMPC Vero had an athlete meeting about yawning;-) Fun fact by Vero: yawning is caused by shallow breathing and neck tension, which are more present during times of increased stress. The lack of oxygen induces yawning and we had quite a bit in the morning session #festivalofyawning #bellybreathing and relaxed shoulders/neck became a focus of the day #breathingkeepstheyawnaway FULL STOP! Drama time! For THE FIRST time since the beginning of camp (and possibly for the first time in her life) our #scheduleguru dropped the ball and I do NOT mean maybe!! Lol! Realizing that the mixed duet training had been placed, without our knowledge, in front of the teams, Jenn T realized that we had music training in ten minutes. This was literally her first #balldrop of the camp and in reflection, it may have been a blessing in disguise #everythinghappensforareason. With her clear directions for everyone to #cooltheirjets we rescheduled and demonstrated our #adaptability With Vero having always demonstrated a significant amount of self-control and calming energy, we can report that she has never liked, and will never like Music Practice and warm up. She feels this is the worst part of our sport and it consistently looks like pirañas or sharks after chum in the ocean with angry and shouty fisherman yelling over the chaos #everyonehastheirtrigger #gongshow #turndownthemusicBudapest #FINAdecibelmetre. With this time crunch, Head Coach Kasia, turned on her #AGame with the 30-minute execution turned into a high energy and effective 13 minute and 34 second session #shetimeditforreal #goals #adaptability #TheHow With our last and final #PreGamePrep ahead of us, we were feeling pretty great. We were the ONLY team in the 50m warm up pool! #somuchspace #excitementbuilding. While watching the schedule with a significant amount of attention #stillburningfromtheearliermessup, Jenn T let us know we were a bit ahead. While waiting we listened to some of our favourite songs. Canadian Girls by Dean Brody, is one of our faves;-) Check it out, if you don’t know it! #NationalTeamSong 13-15 National Team and Senior National Team we are talking to you! #keepthetraditionalive The final warm up and #StepsToSuccess were fun, smooth, and inspiring. The team meteorologist, Scarlett, predicts a blizzard of awesome, as an increase from the snowstorm from the morning #WeTheNorth. The final #FocusCircle included an emotional team song #ifyouknowyouknow as well as a final wrap up and commitment to greatness #fightforgreatness #notsatisfiedwithordinary #BeTheGirl The team walked out under the incredible Duna Arena lights for their last competition performance together. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #the3Fs #wemadeit. What a beautiful and high energy swim #synergy #workingtogether #lastonebestone The #CanuckCheerSquad was at their peak! So much support from the family and friends as well as the staff in the stands! We really felt we were with them during the swim. Moving, clapping, counting, cheering, and lots of smiles, had us as exhausted as them. #TeamManager Isabelle believes that the final video may be slightly bouncy, as she was super into the swim! #hardnottolovethesehumans #wearewithyou After an amazing finish, the team met Kasia and Jenn T for some high fives and hugs in the #kissandcry area. That was it and that was all! #TeamCanada completed their last performance with their greatest swim yet. Vero and I met the group down on the deck for some additional hugs and high fives to close out our WJASC2018 competition experience. The team spent the post competition in the hot tub, enjoying the relaxation and embracing the feelings of completion and accomplishment. Listening to another favourite Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeren we sang together and just enjoyed the moment. #soproudofthesewomen With some #kissandcry moments with the families outside, we were out of there. Home to the hotel to prepare for a lovely team dinner with the whole Canadian entourage. Thank you so much to #WorldClassAttache Anna Maria aka Amy for finding us an outstanding restaurant on a boat #wereonboat. Thank you to Judi and Isabelle from Synchro Canada for organizing and hosting a fantastic night for the team. #BestSupportTeam Throughout the night we had time to reflect about the journey and celebrate all our success. The athletes had worked so hard and the team as well as staff have all grown as a group and as individuals #itsabouttheprocess #theexperienceiseverything #julieleadsbyinspiring #longtermgoals #IPadCode #ifyouknowyouknow #thebiggerpicture A great end to a great competition. With sightseeing and a world class gala routine planned for the next day, we were off to bed. Be sure to check out the Synchro Canada Facebook page for a live stream between 12:30pm and 1:00pm EDT....;-) #GalaPerformance #CelineDion #waituntilyouseeit #CanadaTheme Thank you for following our adventure! We feel your cheers and support from across the Atlantic! Jen

WJASC2018 UPDATE - Day 4 Hello from sunny and significantly warmer, Budapest! We started our Day 3 of the competition #TechTeamDay with a late breakfast! A well...-deserved sleep in for the #HardWorkingHumans saw us meeting at 9:00am. The energy of the athletes was in the perfect place:-) With some stretching and land drill in the 4th floor studio room. This beautiful room was given to us (we literally have a key) early in our stay. The open courtyard in the centre of the hotel was our original spot, but the office staff would stop working and watch us from their window. This may have led the hotel director to move us! #buildingourfanbase #theyclappedeverytimewefinished #theyforsurevideoedus The coaches had a great planning meeting with Vero at our #CoffeeSnob cafe location that is just around the corner from the hotel. We prepared our roles, responsibilities, and goals for this very important #TechTeamDay. When you have a #WorldClassMPC with you at a major competition, you use them for their #WorldClassToolKit #VeroForTheWin After a quick bus ride with our favourite efficient, yet a bit wild driver #dontlookitsfine #fastandfurious #safetyfirst we were ready for our fantastic afternoon. Upon arrival the athletes had lunch and did a strong land drill session with Kasia, before heading down to deck level to jump in the pool. Our incredible staff members Jenn T and Isabelle had secured us a shared music training session with Austrailia, Brazil, and USA. This was so great for the athletes, as they were able to have a calm and focused practice with a decent amount of rest time! #physiology #sportscience #trainingload #athletecentred With the last music session of the tech completed, it was time to get ready for the #BigShow. Our women looked so beautiful and so ready when they appeared from the dressing room. Thank you so much to Courtney Grant for making the #SynchroCanada Junior Team such gorgeous suits. A shout out to Hollie Winkelaar and Gina Hopper for gemming the heck out of our suits and making our very smart and shiny #chapeaus. Moving onto our detailed and fluid last steps of prep, the athletes did an awesome dry photo as well as their personal flexibility time. As we did some stretching the athletes went through some I Will moments. This process is a chance for them to share personal fixes that are important for team success. These are the moments as a coach that you can be so proud of a team. The sharing and commitment to each other during this circle is what it’s all about! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #TheHow With a great Jenn T lap warm up to shake the legs back to #awake we were onto our final Tech Team execution. Wow! What a great warm up. The athletes were focused and really working to get themselves to their own best #activationlevel The coaches were feeling relaxed and happy to see how far this team had come and how excited they were to perform together. #lastonebestone Our #WorldClassTeamLeader Elena then came to meet the athletes to do her, now traditional, #ElenaPepTalk . After being inspired by one of their #favouritepeople the team met for a focused visualization land drill. It was clear that the team was together as a group, yet aware of their personal part in the success. With a little time for a small snack the athletes munched on bananas, peaches, and crackers provided by our team members Stephane and Isabelle #theyarealwaysgroceryshopping #fuelingthehumans The time was NOW! We were at the final stage #itshappening. The team had been working for three weeks to perfect these last minutes of preparation and pre-performance rituals for before the competition swims. With the support of our #WorldClassMPC Vero, we had developed an amazing and efficient routine. Below is a little overview of our routine with some little peaks into this #welloiledmachine Step 1: Accreditation check #JennTcontrolstheaccreds Step 2: Call Room #thefinalwalk #skrtskrt #CanuckEntourage #getmyrobe #itsourtime Step 3: Teah, Cassie, and Kristin delivered beautiful and inspiring words to their teammates #inspired #friendship #teammates #cheersquad Step 4: Head Coach messages from Kasia #focused #yougotthis #soproud #goforit #cantwaittowatch Step 5: Jenn T Rituals #specialmessageforeveryone #secrethandshakes Step 6: Focus Circle with Jen K #chronologicalorder #theyknowitbyheart #feelitinyourbones #punchit #lastonebestone Step 7: Vero’s Words of Wisdom In this step of the process Vero did a beautiful, heartwarming, and engaging activity. She pulled out of her pocket, the athletes I Know papers and placed them on the floor. Vero reminded them of their personal beliefs of what I Want, I Know, and now I Will #mindblow #deepthoughts #connections #WorldClassMentalPerformanceCoach #VeroForMVP Step 8: Jen K Fist Bump #youknowifyouknow #HitItLikeA #eyecontact #walklikeyouaregoingplaces Step 9: Catherine and Emily for Team Circle Watching this moment is the best part of our journey as coaches. This is when you get to watch the athletes have their final moment together before the #BigShow. You can witness their eye contact and connection through the buzz of energy around them. #QuiteTheSight With the perfect activation level of 8 for the tech #thinkswim, Team Canada was ready to go for it. The energy was incredible and the swim was full of personal fixes, team chemistry, and a wicked cadence! Kasia and Jenn T watched from the #kissandcry with their #RedWhitePride and I did my additional Let’s Go from the stands with our, ever outstanding, #CanuckCheerSquad With a solid performance, we were just slightly below Italy in the 7th spot. A highlight of the day was the creation of our own Canadian Kiss and Cry area with the parents, families, and friends of our #WJASC2018 team. Hugs all around, as well as some photos. All of the coaches were able to meet #WorldClassPresident Judi’s husband (although all we wanted to talk about was his beautiful dog, who we had all met in Toronto! #SophiesDad) ;-) Isabelle came the closest that she has ever been to lying down in front of the bus.... we were down two swimmers #WhereAreJaimeAndMik After going for a hug and a kiss from their parents, Jaime and Mik got lost in the elusive and mysterious Stairwell D. After quite the Canadian #wildgoosechase #gongshow we found them! With all of #TeamCanada on the bus, we were hotel bound. Another successful and fun-filled day in Budapest! Until tomorrow;-) Jen

WJASC2018 UPDATE - Day 3 Hello from sunny and windy Budapest! The energy of the athletes was building as we moved into the second day of competition. It was #Du...etDay Emily, Paige, and Mik started off an early morning with the #entourage on their way to the pool on the 7:30 bus. Entering into a relatively chaotic and very busy music training session, they were out of the gates with a bang. Our very cheerful and always positive Mik was pretty excited after her first dip into a Junior Worlds deep end warm up stated, Wow! That was so fun;-) The Free Duet prelim was a fantastic event and even though it was the morning session, the crowd was quite substantial. Em and Paige had a great morning swim and were pleased with their 6th place ranking and draw of 12 for the final. #ElenaAndIsabelleForTheWin . The #CanuckCheerSquad brought their best and the flags were waving proudly in the stands. While the duet was training and warming up for their big event, the team was also busy getting their work done. With a full execution practice of both programs, the team was feeling awake and accomplished well before lunch! With a very productive and inspiring land drill session, the lunch was welcomed by the #hungryhumans Fast forward to our afternoon session. Emily and Paige did a great tech duet warm up, while their duet member Catherine had a quick check in with the Russian Team Doctor;-) #ElenaHasSoManyFriends . A little bit of swimmers ear and a quick solution by our #WorldClassTeamLeader #TheGodmother and Catherine #Cactus was back in action. The tech duet event was a good one. Emily and Paige had a high energy swim with some amazing personal fixes. In a tough field, the duet had a Canadian Junior high score of 84.2473 to finish in the 8th position. A special shout out to Courtney Grant for making the most beautiful suits for the pair as well as #MamaHopper Gina for making the #chapeaus While the tech duet was busy getting their work done the team was doing some outdoor training! The #DunaArena has many pools! There are two 50m pools, one dive tank, a HUGE hot tub, a teaching pool, as well as two 25m outdoor pools. Our women went to one of the outdoor pools for a music practice that was to be shared with four other countries. Our athletes were surprised and thrilled to find the pool empty and just for them! #trainingmoment With the blowing wind and construction around the pool, the athletes found quite a layer of sand on the bottom. They took this opportunity to train hard and leave a little message for the next country.... #GoCanadaGo was scribed into the sand ALL over the bottoms of the pool! Lol #lovethesegirls The afternoon was filled with #AthleteWins . Jaiden and Vero had a #MPC meeting, which made J feel inspired and focused #wraparoundservice. Emma and Kristin had a #athletevoice moment with the coaching staff to advocate for some team goals/training ideas and the video review with athlete checks were the best yet! Another exciting achievement was the purchase of the #WJASC2018 hoodies which the girls were able to get with the Canadian Flag on the sleeve. To summarize.... we had a #solidafternoon #TeamCanadaForTheWin After waiting and watching the official’s traditional event photo #volunteers #ThankYou #WeLoveOurOfficials #ArtisticSwimming we were ready for the big Duet Free Final. Our team meteorologist Scarlett predicted the sunset to occur right as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea were competing their beautiful and very difficult duet #ScarlettForTheWin. Our Canadian pair ended the duet event with an exceptional swim for their #LastOneBestOne. With a top personal score of 86.2333, they confirmed their 6th spot! With some hugs from the #CanuckCheerSquad and a #skrtskrt to the bus, the team was ready to go. With our #WorldClassTeamManager lying down in front of the bus to allow Emily and Paige to cool down.... we were done for the day! #DayTwoCheckCheck. A late dinner at the hotel, quick #wrapup and we were off to bed. Another great day for #TeamCanada! Thank you for all of the support so far! We can feel you cheering from home. #RedWhitePride Until tomorrow, Jen

WJASC2018 UPDATE Day 2 Hello from cloudy and a bit rainy Budapest. Our team meteorologist, Scarlett Finn, predicts cloudy with a chance of great performances...!! What a great #SoloDay in Budapest. We started off with an early breakfast at our fantastic City Hotel Matyas, which included a #mentalperformancemoment between Emily and Vero. With her entourage in tow, Emily ventured out into the big city to catch the bus. We have serious rules here with regard to travel safety and our #BestTeamManagerEver Isabelle, always makes sure that we cross at the light! #safetyfirst With a music training session and some execution warm up, Emily was ready:-) A wonderful first swim to break the ice as they say, started #TeamCanada off with a bang. The #CanuckCheerSquad was in full volume mode and the flags were waving proud. Emily swam with great connection and power and obtained a great score of 85.5. A small music timing issue gave us a jolt of excitement that was a bit more than we would have liked on a Wednesday morning #ElenaAndIsabelleForTheWin . With her strong performance Emily was sitting in the 6th position. Meanwhile in the 50m training pool, our women were fighting for space. With their #RedWhitePride they were able to swim big and have an intense and successful morning session. After another great lunch provided by our incredible Hungarian hosts, the athletes were ready for another training session and Emily was headed to the technical solo final. With another solid performance in a tough field, Emily was able to obtain a season high 83.6! The afternoon session for the team was high energy and super well done. The athletes are really amping up with excitement as their first day quickly approaches. The opening ceremonies was certainly a highlight of the day:-). The Hungarian dancers and performers put on a beautiful and engaging show. Kristin Stremlaw and Teah Hoffmann were the Canadians flag bearers and Canadian FINA member Lisa Schott did a brilliant welcome speech for the crowd as the #WJASC2018 officially opened. For the evening Solo Free Final, our judges Louise and Lianna were able to watch from the stands as for the first time, the judges assigned to the event were from neutral countries with athletes not participating in the final. This is quite the change from the traditional panel assignments and is believed to be part of the future vision for officiating in our amazing sport. Cue the go time for the solo free final.... #WorldClassTeamLeader Elena has been left in charge of Emily’s #PreGamePepTalk and they were sent to the call room for the parade. With the parade starting the marshal came sprinting out looking for Emily. If you all could have seen Jenn T’s face... #priceless Jenn went running off and found Elena and Emily deep in conversation literally just behind the call room wall! With Jenn being told by organizers that she would be doing the parade, she became #motivated to find them! #WeFoundHer #neveradullmoment The solo final was awesome! Emily was in good company in the bottom half of the draw with Russian star Varvara Subbotina as well as rising star Marta Fiedina from Ukraine. Emily was able to achieve a career high of 85.9 with a powerful and engaging evening performance. Our #CanuckCheerSquad brought their A Game which increased Emily’s intensity and drive for the big swim. The fantastic and entertaining Hungarian announcer added some flair to the evening by reading from the routine information sheets! This included a shout out to RTC coach and choreographer Manny Wu as well as world renowned Canadian musical editor and sound genius Hugo Chouinard. Hugo was the creator of Emily’s Free Solo music, which includes a unique blended choir and orchestra merged with the Sam Smith original song Burning. With Elena and Isabelle literally standing in front of the 8:30 bus to allow for a proper cool down, Emily was drip drying on her sprint upstairs! A late dinner at the hotel, a quick debrief of the day, a short run thru of Thursday’s schedule, and it was finally #BedTimeBestTime Thank you all for following our adventure and supporting our team:-) Until tomorrow! Jen
