It is with great sadness that District 29 Lanark has learned of the recent passing of our eldest member, Irene Kirkham. You may remember Irene as the official Bellringer at our (usually) annual ‘To Hell with the Bell’ brunch. She will be greatly missed by so many. What a whacky year 2020 has been so far. And to add even more confusion, our school boards are returning to school on different schedules. So, to recognize the day on which we normally would have held our To Hell With The Bell Brunch, here are a couple of Flashback Photos from our 2019 and 2018 brunches. Wherever you are today, please raise your juice glass or coffee/tea cup and toast another year of retirement, along with best wishes for our colleagues, friends, children and grandchildren who are returning to classrooms today and over the next week.

Message to Members District 29 Lanark RTOERO June 1, 2020 Another month has passed. It has been a difficult time, but with each person doing their part the spread of the virus is slowing and restrictions are being lessened across the province. ... Thanks to Provincial RTOERO, the District 29 Executive met through Zoom on May 13, 2020. Executive reports were prepared and sent out prior to the meeting so questions and comments were ready for discussion. As directed by Provincial, the June 2020 District AGM and executive election, is postponed to a later date. Your current Executive will stay in place until elections can be held. All other meetings and social events, including To Hell with the Bell celebratory brunch on the first day of school, are postponed. Watch for the summer issue of the District 29 newsletter in late July for further information. District bursaries for graduates from each of the county high schools will be given now even though graduations may not take place until 2021. Congratulations to all students who are leaving to begin another stage in their lives. If you have questions, concerns or wish to comment on any information you receive from RTOERO, send along an e-mail or call. Continue to follow recommendations to keep yourself and others safe. Dear members, On behalf of your District 29 Lanark RTOERO Executive, I want you to know that your local and provincial organizations continue to work on your behalf during these trying days. For updates on what RTOERO is doing and in particular information regarding insurance coverage for travellers, go to https:www.rto-ero.org/prepared . Since we do not know how long our protective measures will be in place, we have decided the following: Our Spring Tea (May 12th) is CANCEL...LED Our AGM and Luncheon (June 10th) will be RESCHEDULED. Please, to stay safe and healthy and to protect others, stay home. Reach out to others by phone or Social Media. Ask for help if it is needed. News reports can be dire, but there are many good deeds being done which are now becoming part of the news. Together, even though apart physically, we can get through this. Take care. Ann McGahey - President
