We are excited to be playing a show in Vancouver on September 19th, we will be playing some of our classics and some new, freshly written tunes!

This Sunday is 'uke day' at Ruby's Ukes with September live. on-line. interactive registration opening at 11am! And and a fantastic new ukulele workshop taught by Andrew Smith called 'Solo-ing with Ease' (still a few spots) where he shares his solo-ing know how with charts, and audio samples to go away, explore and practice with!

Next up this weekend in the Ruby's Ukes Zoom Room we have our 5 week chord melody module with Eduardo Garcia teaching starting Friday at 6pm, and on Sunday we have a 'Folk Uke' Ukulele workshop with Andrew Smith teaching. There are some spots available if you'd like to dive in!

Today we moved out of our beautiful space, the magic of Ruby’s Ukes now presented on-line, everything else stored away till the next chapter!

Next up on our ukulele specials board is a ukulele workshop with Andrew Smith of www.rubyandsmith.com teaching, one of our cool Ukulele teachers! Here he is singing with his sister, they had a folk duo back in the day, that played all over when they were teenagers. Summer Ukulele Program 2020! There are a few spots left if you'd like to dive in and take class from wherever you are this Summer!

I would like to take a moment to say that Ruby's Ukes is an ally to #blacklivesmatter. We are allys in ideals and are looking for more ways to make those ideals concrete actions in the world. I have always thought it goes without saying, but I realize today this needs to be spelt out and said aloud. From the days of marching for the freedom of Nelson Mandela to today the issue of racism has been a big part of my social awareness. Coming from a Jewish mother born in a workcamp... in Siberia I understand a tiny bit of what bigotry can destroy. The danger and discomfort that black people face each day continues to be present now. I remember being with my black partner in London, who was stopped by the police for sitting in the car with me in the park... who then asked if I was alright? Coming from London I have been witness to many, many incidents like that. I could go on but won't because it is not about me. It is about us all doing something now. The ukulele is the instrument of democracy and connection, and to me what is now needed is to mobilize that. Real support that looks for ways you can support? Organizations you can contribute to? Each of us will find those and how to have those difficult conversations with wisdom. I hope so anyway. I am very grateful for you all and wanted to say if anyone happens to not align with these values you will not be welcome here. Ruby's Ukes is an ally to this moment of reckoning and we invite you to be too. This is an interesting article to read if you haven't seen it yet that you may find helpful. Thank you. -Ruby
