In Memoriam - Barbara Jean Sparling - May 17, 1933 ~ January 26, 2021 - Barbara Sparling was born in the Chicago area and immigrated to Canada when she was twenty-three. As a child she loved dancing and trained for many years before auditioning for a dancing part in The King and I. Barbara enjoyed Toronto as one of the stops on the tour so she chose to live there upon moving to Canada. She married in the late fifties and had a son, Ken, and a daughter, Genevieve. After her ma...rriage ended, Barbara taught school for many years, including the Waldorf school in Ithaca, New York, the downtown Waldorf school and eventually teaching Kindergarten at the Toronto Waldorf School before she retired. Later, she very much enjoyed the company of her four grandchildren. Barbara loved Waldorf education; she felt it was such a privilege to be able to teach in this way. It was not just about following outer rules; the teaching also came from within. Living here at Hesperus supported the spiritual development she began as a Waldorf teacher. Having known about Hesperus for many years, Barbara was one of the early residents to move in when the expansion was done in the fall of 2011. During her time here she was an active community member. Barbara enthusiastically took up Sociocracy for the many circles she participated in, always full of creative energy and always inspiring others. She will be so missed by her many friends here...." https://www.hesperus.ca/in-memoriam-barbara-jean-spa/ Photo is from a Seminary open course at the Christian Community with Bastian Baan, January 23, 2020. "Biodynamic agriculture has listened to the climate concerns of the young people and the young people trust that they are being heard. Both will pool their strengths and experiences for the digital conference ‘Breathing With the Climate Crisis’. When farmers look at the climate, they are concerned with making the earth as fertile as possible and with minimizing carbon dioxide. Without a healthy climate there will be no harvest, is how Ueli Hurter, farmer and co-leader of the Goetheanum‘s Section for Agriculture, summarizes the situation. Farmers are struggling with extreme weather conditions, with heat waves and heavy rain, which is as damaging to the soil as droughts are, exposing it to erosion. Young people are concerned about the earth and about keeping it inhabitable far into the future....." https://www.goetheanum.org/en/media/
