Electric Vehicle travel in NL is getting a power boost this year! We’re excited to officially announce that Hydro is working with the provincial and federal gov...ernments to build the province’s first fast-charging network for electric vehicles. This afternoon we were joined by the Hon. Siobhan Coady @SiobhanCoadyMHA and the Hon. Seamus O’Regan @SeamusOReganMP to announce the details. With 14 charging locations from St. John’s to Port aux Basques, by the end of 2020 EV users will be able to drive across the island without having to worry about where to plug in next. And the best part about driving electric here in Newfoundland and Labrador is that most of our power comes from clean, renewable sources. Establishing a fast-charging network is an important first step to making EV use more accessible in NL. We are excited to advance this initiative and support a greener future for our province with clean, renewable, road-trip-ready energy in 2020. Want to learn more? Visit nlhydro.com/electricvehicles for details, a map of charging locations and answers to frequently asked questions. #ElectricVehicles #RoadTripReadyEnergy

As part of #StayHomeYear2020 someone asked, What can I do in Port Blandford this summer? Where do we begin. Whether you are exploring on your own, as a couple..., a family or a bunch of friends, there’s lots for you to do! Golfing, salmon fishing, learning about history, playing, walking, swimming, biking, riding ATV, boating or just relaxing, we have it for you! Nestled in a valley with three rivers, a sheltered saltwater bay and surrounded by trees, the area is a little piece of natural paradise. Explore our heritage sites and green spaces by taking a walk through our community. See our railway speeder, replica sawmill and historic church. If you like sports, we have 27 holes of golf at the Terra Nova Resort and Golf Community, including the award winning championship Twin Rivers! You can toss around a softball, throw some horseshoes, shoot some hoops or play beach volleyball at our Municipal Park. If you’re an outdoor adventurer, bring your boat or kayak and explore our saltwater bay that just happens to go along the coast of a national park. If you rather ATV’s, the Newfoundland Trailway runs right through the middle of the community and links you to lots of trails in the back country. You like to salmon fish? Well we have three licensed salmon rivers that you can enjoy including Southwest River, Salmon Brook and Northwest River. If you like swimming, we have a beautiful gem of a natural swimming hole at Middle Brook. Definitely a great way to beat the heat (yes, we get 30+ degrees in the summer and the brook is very inviting!) We have a handful of short class a stone trails, including the trail to the Middle Brook Swimming Hole, the Heritage Walk near the Port Blandford Marina, and a 0.5km loop next to Salmon Brook at the entrance of Terra Nova National Park. And the community is like one big trail, so feel free to stroll around our streets and explore! Need somewhere to rest your head? We are an accommodation hub! Everything from a B&B, efficiency unit, cabin, cottage, chalet or hotel, you can find them all in Port Blandford. And if you have an RV or trailer, there are RV sites too! Just check out By d’Bay Cabins, Serendipity B&B and Cottage, Terra Nova Cottages RV & Conference Centre, and Terra Nova Resort and Golf Community. Obviously you need to eat, so there is a take-out at the Corner Stop and a full dining restaurant at the Terra Nova Resort. If you would like a few sociables and some pub grub, check out Mulligan’s, also located at the Terra Nova Resort. If staying in the community for a while, you will need supplies, and you can get everything from gasoline, diesel, liquor, groceries, ice and beer at the North Atlantic Gas Bar and Wilson’s Gas Station on two of the community’s entrances. In addition to all the great things about Port Blandford, the community is the Eastern Gateway to Terra Nova National Park (yes, even a portion of the park is in our Town) and the Western Gateway to the Bonavista Peninsula with Route 233 intersecting with the Trans Canada Highway at Port Blandford. So What can I do in Port Blandford this summer? We think the question should be, is there enough time for you to do everything in Port Blandford this summer? If you have any questions about our community, call or email our Town Hall or any of the wonderful businesses in our community. You can find their contacts on our Town’s website under the business directory at https://portblandford.com/business-directory/ Hope you have a great summer! #StayHomeYear2020
