CELEBRATING THE CENTENNARY OF THE GREAT OCTOBER REVOLUTION: A triumph of labouring masses Event of the International League of Peoples’ Struggles, Vancouver, Committee on Nov. 10/17 This year, we celebrate the success of the Russian revolution lead by the Bolsheviks and fought by the poor, labouring people in Russia 100 years ago. It pulled the Russian people out of imperialist war. It ended the kingdom and its backward system of aristocratic landholding and e...nslaved peasants and industrial workers in the cities. The Russian people won control of their industries, work, lands and governance. It brought about literacy, improved work conditions and pushed social movements around the world. Despite the realities of betrayal, corruption and abandonment of socialist construction by the 1960s, the impacts of the Great October Revolution are lasting and irrefutable. On this occasion, we remember and celebrate these massive accomplishments and their consequences the world over. There are lessons for the peoples’ struggles and dreams today. It still gives us ideas and hope. Come to a discussion at the Russian Hall (600 Campbell St.) on Friday, November 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. We will discuss the causes and effects of the Great October Revolution.
