B4 and After. This transition project was such a pleasure to complete. Not only was I creating a new fresh living space for this beautiful friend of mine and her family but a breath of fresh air for a full time working mom, as well as a part time university student who has spent the past four years studying and completing massive papers after working her full time job as a kindergarten teacher during the day than working towards her masters degree at night/weekends. Lets n...ot forget the countless hours volunteering within her school and community. Its strong women like YOU Wendy whom I adore and love the opportunity to partner up even if only for a small sliver of time to help life flow just a little bit easier and create breathing space within a loving home like yours. Hello everyone hope your enjoying your summer so far! Rustic River Design has been staying busy creating cool new Airbnbs (Coming soon.... ), homeowner projects as well as a few of our own fun little odd jobs. This was too cool not to share... check out our New/Old Rustic barn door. It has a ton of character that will create some fun conversations over time Im sure. Heck if only these two pieces could talk. We purchased the barn door at one of my favourite picking barn/sh...ops. LorneCindy Huffman and The barn door track was taken off my Great great Grandfathers barn so as you can imagine this piece is super special to our family. This piece is just off our screened in porch which will help to protect from the weather while barbecuing or we can slide it over and it will be privacy for our future hot tub. Great little transition project on the go. Basement office/lounge area, bathroom & guest bedroom is now feeling like a breath of fresh air! Stage 1 & 2 is now complete. Carpets gone Old furniture gone ... Walls, ceiling & floors are sealed & painted Im extremely happy how these two accent walls are creating a beautiful crisp summer beach house feel. All while brightening up the rest of the rooms. Stage 3: (My favourite part ) Time for Rustic River Design to create a fully furnished home away from home including some real unique interior decor that will be placed amongst some new fun pieces of furniture as well as some old family gems which helps to keep the character of this home while at the same time giving it a fresh new twist. Old Crates of all shapes and sizes can be so fun to play around with in any room or decor.

Creative corners... This is an old pie oven. If only it could talk. There is a hole inside on the bottom below the racks that used to sit on top of the old cookstoves and allow heat to rise within. Over the years I have collected small little baking tins some that belong to my great grandmother Madeline Love and others like this old family favourite rice pudding recipe from my Great grandma Jean Flemings recipe box. The handwriting creates such a beautiful memory. Displaying and enjoying pieces of your families history is a way to allow your own unique character & style to peak through. Always be authentically YOU. That will never go out of style. Remember the strong women that walked before you left the best of themselves behind.

Quick coffee while I do my checklist for the day. Chilli simmering away in the crockpot well I head out to inspire a special someones home today! Kids are always starving as soon as they get home so dinner will already be done for them. Mmmmmm Than off to Football & Hoops! Everyone has the same amount of time in the day its how you use that time. Some days are crazier than others but we have to embrace the craziness and smile. Have a great day everyone! Jessica Mccoy

Spring is in the air! Its amazing how just one small little burst of colour in an old can, vase, mason jar ect... Can change the look & energy in any room. This is an old cook stove pie oven and grandmas rustic radio that makes our kitchen on this cold February morning feel like I have slid back in time even for a moment. Im kind of obsessed with cozy corners and patios!!! The only thing that would complete this is a hot coffee and a good book. But... it is they end February in CANADA soooo in the meantime a winter bonfire with smores will soothe my heart just fine. Im not going to lie tho Spring I cant seem to get you off my mind x Jess

Love this idea for my little spring outdoor shower project!!! Old truck mirror and Ontario plates of coarse to hold shampoo & conditioner. Also Im thinking Im going to be planting some lemongrass all around our patio. Not only will it smell & look great but it will keep the mosquitoes away at the same time!

This is a picture of Whipper Billy Watsons 18 foot trappers canoe that now resides in our living room rafters. I have Imagined this very canoe in our home long before it was ever here. For me my inspiration has always been the river where I grew up as a little girl. Now a grown women, wife & mother of two children. I still to this day am drawn by the flowing river water that brings calmness to my mind, body & soul. Yet the rapids that flow so quickly in the spring helps to ...rejuvenate, replenish and feed my inner strength & adrenaline. I find balance and natural beauty when in nature. Every person and thing has a story. Some stories colourful and bright, some dark & grey. People or things can either attract love and energy when others can just as quickly take it away. We have the power to control this. No person or thing can bring you happiness that is found within. Just like your own unique style. When decorating homes I never go by what is in style I decorate with my heart and listen to what is important to the person I am decorating/organizing for. I let them openly tell me about whats important to them, experiences they have had and what truly inspires them. What pieces of furniture or colours bring you comfort and confidence through conversation. I believe in listening to your intuition & never giving up on things you have always pictured in your mind, perhaps it hasnt found its way to you just yet. Welcome to my office.

Creating space & letting go is the most wonderful feeling. Lets start by creating a love list. A love list is what will allow you to fall back in love with your surroundings. List the things you love about your home/space vs the things you dont. By focusing on what DOES make you feel good vs the things that drain you. (Big difference) Little by little those things will start to dwindle by expanding on the positive. For Example: I just moved our bedroom around a couple days ...ago. Something just didnt feel right. I was feeling bogged down. And waking up feeling the same way after a full night rest. So I decided to clear out the crap. I ended up finding stuff in every nic and cranny. Why I kept certain things I dont know. They had no real meaning and was taking up precious space. Almost a week later I am loving how this room now makes not only me but my husband feel. No T.V, No cell phones, no items that bring any sort of heaviness or anxiety to the room. The energy is now lighter. We are having better conversations. Sleeping so much better. Keeping it simple. No more holding on to anything that doesnt create love & lightness especially in this room. Now Im reflecting on how great this feels and looking at how much these little changes has made such a big impact on not only my own personal well being but also being aware of how my husband is noticing a difference. I want more of this ( lol human nature) so Im making a love list of where I can make a difference in other rooms in our home that will effect other parts of my life in a positive way. How can I create Healthier relationships with my children? Close friends? Every time I create space(declutter) my home, Vehicles, office, ect... New personal as well as financial opportunities arise. I love creating cozy corners. A space you get to call your own. I got inspired when I came across my great grandma Loves quilt. Something about the comfort it gives me when Im reading & its wrapped around me. Therefor this new cozy corner of mine was inspired by her. In this space I have books, angel cards, my planner, gratitude journal, healing rocks, crystals, sweetgrass and things that create the energy that allows me to just be me.
