Hello everyone. Rutland Optical will be closed over the Easter long weekend from Friday the 10th to Monday the 13th. We will reopen Tuesday the 14th. Wishing you all a healthy, safe long weekend!

To all our valuable clientele, During the COVID 19 crisis we want to assure you that Rutland Optical is OPEN and is taking every precaution for your safety. We have completely disinfected our premises. All eyeglasses frames go through a rigorous disinfection process before and after every use. Our equipment, surfaces even our pens are sanitized. We are following all guidelines recommended under our regulatory health professions act. We will not be doing any new contact lens fits, but are here for all you essential needs. At this time we will not be charging essential service providers for adjustments, minor repairs or nose pad replacements etc.. Come check out all our new spring styles and know we have and always will be here to serve you! Thank you for your support!

So as everyone is getting their costumes together for Halloween, I just want to put out a little reminder. As a lot of you are aware, I am a licensed contact lens fitter. I tend to have to deal with the post Halloween contact lens issues(which are not fun when you see the repercussions of tight, loose or improper fits). For those who may be planning on "stepping your costume up" this year with those crazy contact lenses... let me enlighten you to some of the issues you may fa...ce: -The contacts you purchase at drug stores and pop up Halloween stores, may not be the right fit for your eye resulting in discomfort and possibly damage. -The curvature of your cornea should be measured by an eyecare professional. -You should be taught insertion and removal techniques to avoid damage to your eye. -Be prepared for some tunnel vision with Halloween Contact lenses. -And if you are wearing ones like a cat or lizard eye, these are weighted or toric and you will feel these in your eyes more than a solid colored ones. -As these lenses are thicker than regulated contacts, keep wearing to a minimum to avoid oxygen deprivation to the cornea. -And if you are wearing false nails, maybe have a backup plan to remove your lenses later in the evening (especially if indulging in beverages that could impair your dexterity). -Wash your hands prior to inserting and removing to avoid infection. -And never share your contacts with others or wear someone else's contacts as these may not fit or can be contaminated. Contacts have been most commonly used to correct vision but have become increasingly popular cosmetically. Please use good judgement as you only have one set of eyes! Happy Halloween!
