So nice to just sit and relax .December was a very busy month .We had to under take a very big Reno on a property we have on Ryan’s Road.So there was not a lot of time to spend in the shop.The Reno is complete.A lot of time and effort was put into it by Monica and myself.I smile as I have not done a lot of this work in a long time. But I guess it is like learning to ride a bike,once you master it you never forget.So now that project is put to bed ,I will be making my way back to the shop.A few days of some tiding up in the shop and will be rolling out projects.This property is rented and not available .

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas ,and that Santa finds you all.Lucky here at the shop ,Santa made an early drop and the wood supply is good .Most would not get as excited as me about a fresh supply of 12 inch pine,lol.So after the Holidays the projects will be ongoing and lots of saw dust.Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

New to the shop ,First one was out the door today.This table is 25 inches long,30 inches high, Sheves are spaced at 8 inches and 19 inches .The top is 12 inches deep.First table I have done that had a rail on the top.Gives the table a nice rustic look.Solid pine well built.I can now add this top rail to most tables.I hope to soon have one with a drawer .Always adding to and improving to my line of tables.

Things are getting busy in the shop.I have done many projects .Even with the Municipal Election on the go,my talents have gone to framing signs ,installing and maintaining signage.Always a project on the go.

I have been asked by many for garbage boxes.Last year I did a few.The price of material has jumped and in some cases it has doubled in price.Given the material costs for treated lumber and the difficulty in finding it ,I do not see doing many this year. I find it hard to charge what it costs to build them .When the material cost alone this year is almost the price of what I was doing them for last year.I may do some from pine and stain them. I am working on little tables in the shop as well as some items like lanterns and etc.As I have items ready I will post.

Guess it is not nessary to ask me who I intend to vote for on October 17. This lady has put her heart and soul into working for our small town. She is never hard to contact ,always responses to inquires .I truely think the welfare of our Town is on her mind 24 hours a day. I have no hesitation in voting for her. I hope you do as well!

I was cleaning up my raised garden boxes today.Over all it was a good season.Some things I will plant different next year.Over all they did well. I was thinking if there was anything that I could plant in the fall for next year.Number one that came in mind was garlic.Garlic will grow well in raised beds and planters.Plantered in September to late October .They like well drained soil.The cloves should be spaced about 6 inches apart.The top plant will start growing in the spring.The cloves will root before the cold weather,giving it a head start for the top growth in the spring. Cloves from the garlic bulb are preferred to seed.Lots of info on line if interested.

Starting to get back into the shop..August was a hot month and was hard to get into woodworking.Just finished some pieces for the golf course in Inverness.The podium was a totally new project.As I was building it I had to resist the temptation to preach ,lol.These pieces are all build from white cedar .They should give many years of use.

I get some interesting requests for projects.This proved to be one of them.The project was to build a top that would cover the top on a kitchen island .The hoped result was to be a bit rustic and give the island a more table look.I did the piece and the buyer did the staining and four coats of finish. Also she added high backed stools.I am amazed at how well this idea worked.I think it looks wonderful.

This was a busy season for planters.Even got into them myself.So far we have enjoyed beans,green peppers ,tomatoes ,green onions and beets .Given what I learned from this first try at growing in raised planter boxes ,I am looking forward to next year.I will be ahead of the game as the boxes will be ready to use in the spring.I will get an early start as I will use plastic covers.Looking forward to doing more planters.I liked the height,very few weeds and easy to control the watering .I will take orders for planters at any time.

My jungle is growing well.Actually I am amazed at the growth.Next year I will be a bit more selective on what I plant.The green peppers are are out doing them selves.Tomatoes are doing well as are the beets ,potatoes are doing nicely .Everything I planted has grown well.The raised boxes combined with location on the deck has made for and ideal growing spot.Number of hours spent weeding ,none.

The last of the Entrance planters have found homes.Thank you all that I had the pleasure to build planters for this year.I hope they are being enjoyed and all is growing well in them.

Too warm to enjoy the happy spot this afternoon.The elevated planters are filling in nicely .Have snap peas ready to pick.The tomatoes are growing well ,the beets ,green onions, bush beans ,green peppers,potatoes as well as the cat grass are growing leaps and bounds.Miracle Grow,lots of good old water ,night or early morning,a hit of Epson salts diluted in water every week or so.The magnesium in the Epson salts is good for all plants .Old Mother Nature with sun .No weeds ,no bending .

Some times a small entrance planter is all that is needed.These are three years old and as good as the day they were built .Stained Evony Black ,solid stain.

The garden is coming along.Love the raised planters.No bending ,lol.Flower bags are doing well.I agree with Monica ,I think this is the most we have ever planted .

On my morning outing to the stores I noticed that wal mart still have a nice healthy selection of plants ,hanging baskets etc located at the store entrance.They also had some nice looking tomato plants in pots ,with support rings .Also they have a good selection of plant food and seeds in the planting isle.Lol I am only mentioning this as I took advantage of picking up bean and pea seeds for a second planting next week.Stocked up on some plant food as well.Always fine this ...stuff is never there when you really need it. Can not believe the rate my beans and stuff are growing.I will have to transplant some things.My hanging bags have turned out beautiful,a little more colourful that normal .But not bad for the price of a hanging bag,some potting soil and $5 worth of bedding plants.Think they ran about $8 a hanging bag. Jake our little fur buddy is waiting for the pool to open.He has a big interest in the pool.Not so sure he would enjoy being in it.

I think we all have a quite spot .A place to relax ,have a cup of coffee .Sit and do nothing .That is not the shop,lol.Every once in a while I actually do projects that are for me.I just added three elevated planters on our deck.Three units with the middle having a shelf for water cans and other gardening tools.I stained them classic grey ,to match the deck walls.I oiled them with food grade oil and lining them with landscape cloth.Will finish the insides with the landscape material tomorrow .To morrow evening we will plants all our vegetable plants that are presently in the mini greenhouse.A little rearranging of some hanging flower bags and we will enjoy our elevated deck garden.

Building pine planter boxes for four years.Many improvements in style and construction.One thing that has not changed is the building material.I use only kiln dried Eastern pine.I do not use nails or staples .All boxes are fastened with wood screws in predrilled holes.Nails and staples will not hold well in damp wood.The design of the boxes gives the look of boards .But these cuts help keep the boards from twisting and splitting.The height range ...is 12 inches to 32 inches .The elevated height of 32 inches is a very comfortable for box gardens ,no bending .I take pride in the planters I build.I am always ready to do custom planters.All planters are affordable ,and I think a great value for your money .I have to thank all the people that have gotten planters .I much be doing something right going by the repeat orders. Onions need long growing periods and plenty of sun to produce bulbs large enough for the effort. But, if you intend to harvest them as scallions or baby onion plants, any area that gets dappled light or partial shade is good enough. Start the seeds indoors and set the seedlings out in spring. Keep the patch watered. Start harvesting when the plants are 6 inches tall. Minimum sun 3 hours
