We have some bird nester lanterns filled with alpaca fleece available through our online store at www.silverheronfarm.ca. Check out the variety of lantern styles available! Alpaca fleece has water wicking properties and is very warm. So it's ideal for birds to use. These lanterns each come ready to hang and are filled with ~1 ounce of raw fleece. These short (typically less than 1-2 inches) pieces of fleece are used by birds (and possibly other critters) for building/lining t...heir nests in the spring. Refill packs are also available for $7.50. A refill will fill one of our lanterns or you can use it on a lantern or holder of your own. We've been selling lanterns filled with fleece from our farm's alpacas but we haven't really done a post just about them. Meet our two male alpacas, Hank and Earl. They were rehomed to us a few years ago and always entertaining curious critters. They hang out with our mini cows sometimes and have even been known to play with the calves and snuggle with the cows.... They get sheared once a year, this keeps them from overheating in the summer (their fleece is very warm!) and it's good for their overall health. They don't regularly wear their halters.
