S Squared Renovations

Today was backsplash day in this lovely kitchen. We got to finish adding the wow factor to a lovely kitchen install by putting in the backsplash. Its always a pleasure to put finish touches to other peoples great ideas.

There are times when I wish we had a before picture. This project took us outdoors. A new roof on the pool house and concrete extension pad. 150 ft of new pos...ts and reclaimed panels as well. V J rice concrete arrived on time, a team of wheel barrow pushers moved 5 yards of concrete in one hour, great help on a super property. See more

A work in progress. Much needed upgrades to this rental property. Stay tuned for finish pictures and a longer term maintenance free exterior. Renovations are always a great challenge.

Another interesting project complete. Sometimes its not about ( high end ) or dream projects, sometimes its about property improvement the right way. This rental property needed windows, doors new siding and a rebuilt garage roof. The changes the owner wanted will make a big difference over time and definitely improves the look from the street.

Some jobs start simple and turn into something else. The more we deliberated in our makeshift office the more money we were able to save the property owner on this repair project.

Stairway to heaven. Some days the job is simple and has to be done properly. Emergency stairwell tied into brick. Simpson self tapping bolts were perfect.

A fun way to look at part of our day.

Custom shower completion. It can be a challenge to create something new in an old space. This homeowner came up with a great design to make a small space work.

Deck season is truly underway. This raised deck was a pleasure to plan and build. Built with engineered plans, this deck is safe and will provide many years of enjoyment.

Another project in progress. Deck building may seem simple enough but rules must be followed. Engineer stamped drawings followed by good materials and cross trade support is essential. This deck when finished will be a superb upgrade.

Renovation and rejuvenation. This amazing small building is over 150 years old. New bottom boards, cedar shingles and a steel roof will ensure it continues to stand for another 100 years.

A busy week with multiple projects. When we work in public locations with all the guidlines in place we work carefully and slowly. The following pictures show how we create negative air work areas.

Tyvek time at the next QE 2 dream cottage. We will be back in a few weeks time to trim and install cape cod siding. We look forwade to see what Chester Builders and Eye for Style design have chosen for colours and trim design.

This part of our work on this property is almost complete. New Deck with dog gate and laundry pole. Lattice and a little landscaping next on the list.

Deck season has begun. Foundation work, new deck and metal roofing on this project. A new deck will provide hours of enjoyment at this amazing home.

Over the past two months there has been significant change to the way we work and live. We at S squared are no exception to this. Some work has been postponed and other renovations put aside while we refocus on projects that allow us to work safely and considerately. We have also taken the opportunity to give where we can in ways a small company can. Before the onset of Covid19 we were asked to quote on work for the Canning Foodbank. They needed to build a new wheelchair ramp, widen their hallway, create an office and grocery counter. With the economic effects of Covid 19 and the tireless work of volunteers we felt we could only match their efforts and donate our labour. Our thanks to Brian Keddy for great fill work and Frasers Building Supplies Coldbrook for helping with material costs and Rhys Dixon for volunteering his time.

From stairs to storage !! We have great customers with super ideas. This micro reno reclaimed a part of the home and turned it into a usable and tidy space. This work was mainly done using vinyl wrap shelving, avoiding drywall and crack filling. With fresh paint and new floors, no project is too small.

Last weeks work was a fun mini makeover. We had great direction from the home owner Robyn Manning, a gifted interior designer. As always its a privilege to be trusted with a vision and help create something special.

Basement renovation complete! This renovation turned a basement area into a two bedroom apartment complete with egress windows, laundry room and new kitchen. Walls were built, ceilings soundproofed, doors hung and trimmed. We were pleased to be asked to take on this project. The sub-trades involved did great work, creating a space someone will be pleased to call home.

Today was a beat the storm day. As part of this basement apartment renovation we installed two egress windows below grade. Cutting into the basement walls and installing windows involves a few rules and steps that cannot be missed. The North Air windows made to order were perfect for the job. We are pleased to supply and Install North Air Windows and doors, made with pride in Nova Scotia.

The siding and insulation project at the QE2 Dream cottage is complete and now other superb tradespeople move things on to the next stages. I have to say Chester Builders expect high standards and trades working together to complete builds, it will show in the finished project. Rendell Homes created a beautiful and challenging design, we were very pleased to be involved.

The exterior of the next QE2 dream cottage is Almost finished and looking the way the designer intended. Cape cod involves a lot of planning to install properly and stay on track on a build with multiple pitches , gables and trim lines. We are glad to be included in the build. We are proud of our work and glad to be part of the team of tradespeople involved with this project.

Big Days at Skipper Hill. Taking full advantage of good weather and dealing with the fussy stages of siding the QE2 dream cottage. Chester builders are providing a great work environment, making the challenge of exterior winter work easier.

Our recreation of a British classic ( the Tardis ) Dr Who is almost complete. We will now finish walls and ceiling to fit the feel of this unique entry to a rather fun air bnb.

Work continues into the next stage at the QE2 dream cottage. Cape Cod siding with colour matched nails in midnight blue. There is lots of detail work inside and out. Sight transoms rule the day with this type of install.

S squared goes to Chester. The new year brings a new big project to be involved with. The QE2 dream cottage, Chester. Our present scope of work is to house wrap insulate the exterior and strap for Cape Cod Siding. We will start the facia and siding next week, custom colours and design unique to the build.
