Did you know? Here at the Food Bank, we have some very dedicated and wonderful volunteers! We couldn't operate without them! So we'd like to say THANK YOU to (in no particular order) Dave, Marion, Rita, Jane, Andrea, Sheila, Denise, Brianna, and Tammie who will be starting this week. We also have a few who come out every year at Christmas time and give us a hand sorting food, sorting toys, setting up the gym and toy room and helping people "shop" on distribution days.... During the Christmas season this year, we will require some additional volunteers. If you are interested, please give us a call or email (905-623-2185 or [email protected]). You will need to have a Criminal Records Check. We can provide a letter for you so that you can get the volunteer rate.

The Salvation Army Bowmanville Food Bank 09.10.2020

UPDATE - November 24th, 2020: We are in need of volunteers (who are not registered clients) to assist with bagging the toy hampers this year. With us being in the Red Zone, we will not be able to have people come in and "shop" for toys as in previous years. If you are able to assist us between November 30th and December 11th, please send us an email or give us a call. No Facebook messages please. Our email is [email protected] and our phone number is 905-623-2185.

There are plenty of appointments available today and Monday (October 26th) for Christmas registration. Please call or email us if you would like one. Just a reminder, it is the shared policy of all the food banks in the area that you can only apply for one Christmas hamper/toys from one place. This information is shared through out shared computer system and by regular email updates. This is to ensure that we all can help as many people as needed with our limited resources.... Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding. Distribution will take a bit longer this year as we have to limit the number of people in the building at one time. Singles and homes with adults only not requiring toys will be on Thursday December 10th and Friday December 11th. Families with children, toy distribution will be the week of December 14th to December 18th. For the toy distribution, it must be one of the parents, or one of the people specified in the court custody papers. So, if you are a grandparent or great-grandparent, other family member, etc., you cannot apply for toys for the children, only the above stated circumstances.

UPDATE - JULY 13th, 2020 We are full tomorrow morning, but still have plenty of spots available in the afternoon. We also have plenty of spots available for Wednesday and Thursday. Please call or email if you need an appointment for July and haven't had one yet. Registration for Back to School back packs is open. Please ask for an application during your appointment if you have custody of school aged children on your profile. The back packs are for children going into JK ...to Grade 12. NEW - The new by-law is in effect in Durham Region, so everyone is required to wear a mask when coming to the food bank (unless you have a legitimate exemption). Also, only ONE (1) person at a time will be allowed going forward. We have a lot of bread this week, so if you would like more than one, don't be afraid to ask. We hate having it go moldy and have to throw it out. If you would like us to pray for you for anything, we would be more than happy to do that! Please ask, or send us an email or leave us a voice message after hours. You don't even need to go into details if you don't want. Just say "please pray for me" and we will. We have copies of the daily devotional reading book "Our Daily Bread" available as well. Feel free to take one.
