Purchasing your first home in BC? One program available to assist you is the Provincial Government's First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) Property Transfer Tax Exemption. Transfer tax is 1% on the first $200,000, and 2% on the balance. For example, a $400,000 home would be assessed a $6,000 property transfer tax. With the FTHB exemption, you would save this $6,000. Some qualifications:... - Purchase price/market value must be under $425,000 for a full exemption - You must move into the property with 92 days - It must remain your principal residence for at least one year - You cannot have owned a principal residence anywhere in the world prior Please click on this link to see the full list of qualifications of the FTHB program: http://www.sbr.gov.bc.ca/documents_library/forms/0269.pdf If you have any questions, feel free to contact our office.
