Today the Government of Canada announced $71.8 million to Alberta for childcare as part of the Safe Restart Agreement. This is on top of the $45 million the fed...eral government gave to Alberta in July. have invested in childcare since the pandemic. This is 6.5 times the amountJason KenneyandRebecca Schulz actually invests it in childcare - unlike her own Budget which accumulates every month without being fully spent while the childcare sector is in critical condition. We dont yet know the details of how it will actually be spent but lets hope MinisterRebecca Schulz The supports listed below are desperately needed. Once again, thank you to the federal government for making up for the UCPs complete failure to support the childcare sector. #ChildCareMattersAlberta Heres the link to the federal announcement: https://www.canada.ca//safe-restart-a/letters/alberta.html Heres what it says specifically for childcare: "Alberta will use the funds to: - Supply child-care spaces and increase availability of spaces for families of children with disabilities or at risk; - Provide a time-limited grant to cover some fixed costs for preschool, day care and family day homes serving various age groups; - Provide a time-limited grant to cover some fixed costs for out-of-school programs serving children of various age groups; - Provide a one-time grant to programs based on reported enrollment; and - Provide a one-time grant to early childhood educators that have returned to or remained working in the sector." WE GOT THIS! First week back in schools for a lot of us this week. Our team was feeling all the feelings today including relief, excited that programs are starting up again. We wanted to send out our love and encouragement to all the school age care programs and educators gearing up to reopen from the SACDA family. If any one can make this a wonderful year, it is us. And, because of all our kiddos, we cant give up. We dont educate and promote play for parents or stakehol...ders or the government. We educate for our kiddos and the future. We know that what we do for them today will help them tomorrow. We may be going into the unknown, but were doing it together and that fills us with a lot of a confidence. Good luck everyone, lets make this year AWSOME! #wegotthis#backtoschool #welcomeback #school #educators #afterschool #sacda # #children #sacda #abafterschool #returningsafely #love #ece

The School Age Care Directors Association of Alberta has worked closely with CBE, CCSD, AHS, and Childrens Services to support its members during this unprecedented time in history. We have engaged in numerous conversations and strategy sessions to provide input into policy changes to help mitigate risks and increase safety protocols for all children and professionals in OOSC programs in Alberta. We are proud of the steps we have taken and we look forward to future conversa...tions with policymakers to ensure all children, families, and professionals in OOSC receive support while programs reopen. If you are looking for additional support, information or to find out how to become a member please contact us directly. We wish all OOSC programs and professionals a safe and healthy relaunch.
