SACHA 26.01.2021

Yesterday SACHA had our monthly AR/AO meeting and a topic that keeps coming up is the hatred and oppression faced by many of our city councillors and BIPOC community members. Most recently Councillor Nrinder Nann who is the only woman of colour on council, received extremely violent, racist phone threats against the Black community. The Black community here in Hamilton continues to be targeted with these phone calls being only one example of the anti-Black racism and violence... they are facing. The Black community remains among the top communities to report experiences of hate related violence. BIPOC communities in Hamilton continue to face high rates of hate, violence, and targeted abuse in our community. White people this is the time to take action against racism. It’s unacceptable that in Hamilton, we are seeing a growing culture of silence and comfort where racists are emboldened to contact city officials and openly threaten violence. Be loud in denouncing white supremacy when you see it and be loud in your support of BIPOC communities who are already doing the intensely hard work of trying to make Hamilton safer. Make your own statement of solidarity today, show that there is no room for racism in Hamilton. Nrinder Nann we see you, thank you for highlighting once again the need to address hate in Hamilton. And to the Black community we know you deserve to be safe and live in a Hamilton free of racism. You are not alone. #HamOnt #AntiRacism #HamiltonForAll
