Dr. Hassan Marsi has a message for Saskatoon, and Saskatchewan. The basic breakdown of his message: The Ro (rate of infection) in Northern Italy, during the height of infection was between 2.5-3. The Ro in Saskatoon is currently almost 4. The doubling time for infected cases is about 7 days. In 7 days we went from ~300 to ~600 cases. In hospital we went from 11 to 26 patients.... We need to take immediate action to prevent a slowdown or shutdown of our economy as our health care system is going to be overwhelmed if we don’t take action to reverse this thread. 1.) wear a mask in public 2.) wash your hands 3.) keep your bubble as small as possible We make this plea on behalf of all educational workers, and all essential workers, who do not have the ability to keep their bubbles small. Please, follow these guidelines. Do your part to help protect everyone.
The other day, a member of our group took a screen shot of a comment thread, in our group, and posted it at the No Masks Saskatchewan group. (She is no longer a group member.) She told the anti-masker group that we want everything shut down again and we must be so scared of everything. Nothing could be further from the truth. We want strong leadership and clear guidelines that align with the current science. We want transparent guidelines on who is considered a contact, that ...also aligns with the current science. We want transparency on school outbreaks and transmissision. We thought it was a good time to repost a video we created in August. We explain the link between schools, the community, and our economy. If we want to have a strong economy, we need strong public health measures to control the spread of COVID-19. If our government truly cared about our economy and the lives of Saskatchewan people, they would have made stronger school guidelines. They’d model mask wearing in public. They’d get in front of this second wave. Watch, like, share. Many people haven’t thought about these connections and the spread of COVID.
This is worth a read.
