This Halloween remember to stay safe! The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has recommendations for trick-or-treating safely this Halloween, including: Make sure you and your child wear a cloth face mask. Halloween masks are not a substitute for a cloth mask, and wearing a Halloween mask over a cloth mask can make breathing difficult Only trick or treat with members of your household, and avoid large crowds or lingering on driveways Keep a 2-meter distance between you a...nd others whenever possible Wash hands before and after trick-or-treating, and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer frequently throughout the night Make sure costumes are visible to motorists at night, and add reflective tape to increase visibility Make sure your child knows to always look both ways and to only cross the road when the way is clear Tell you children not to eat any candy until you have looked it over For more Halloween safety tips, visit https://www.wechu.org//safety-recommendations-celebrating- Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!

During these uncertain times, many parents are considering not bringing their children out for trick or treating. The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has warned that trick-or-treating may be a high risk activity, especially for those who are over 70 or have compromised immune systems. We at the safety village will always encourage parents to make decisions for their children that put safety first, but we understand how important events like Halloween and trick-or-treating are for children and families. If you are considering skipping trick-or-treating this year, check out this link for some Halloween 2020 alternatives that don't sacrifice fun.
