Happy Halloween, everybody!

Hydrangeas are not something you'll typically see in one of our bouquets; they are very high maintenance flowers that will typically start wilting the second they're out of water (so dramatic!). We did a lot of extra work to make sure they lasted and looked good through the ceremony, because that's what our bride had her heart set on. It was so worth it! ***Still don't recommend these for bouquets!! LOL

October is a super-special month here at Sage because we get to celebrate one of our favourite humans a whole heck of a lot. Not only is October Ashley's birthday month, it's also the month that she signed on to become a full-time member of Team Sage. That was three years ago!! In the past three years Ashley has become and integral part of Sage; she helps to keep things running smoothly, catches things others would miss, she is crazy-creative, and our Sage Family wouldn...'t be the same without her. We’ve hit a few walls throughout this pandemic and this week we hit another. Chatting with our industry friends (and even those outside the event industry) has confirmed that this wall is being felt almost universally. It feels like tired. It feels like struggling for inspiration. It feels like we’re floating through a vivid dream. We’re all learning to adjust to changing rules and restrictions, planning and re-planning as we go. We’ve been working hard to take care of ours...elves, each other, and our clients throughout this pandemic and this week we’ve really felt it here at Sage. All we can do is to keep taking care of one another, rest when we can, and keep our wine and CBD stores well-stocked ;) I feel so lucky to be a part of this incredible industry where we are surrounded by creative people who really care about one another. It’s been interesting work, this process of re-imagining events in the age of COVID. Things look a little different but what an incredibly unique experience for guests who get to attend these types of events right now! H+T’s wedding day was a whirlwind of an event which the vendor team pulled off, with @kennedyevents at the helm, in just a couple of weeks. This was made with a lot of love

Getting all the warm vibes remembering this beautiful wedding. I’d asked Chantal to send me these photos because I couldn’t dig any up and I LOVED the way her bouquet turned out!! She sent them right away and before I had a chance to share them an article started circulating about an Ontario-based videographer who refused to shoot a wedding because the marriage was taking place between two women. ... This made me SO ANGRY! And then I hesitated to share the photos for two reason: first, because I didn’t want the focus of the post to be the fact that it was a wedding between two women and; Second, because I didn’t want to come across as opportunistic... UGH!!! ...And then I remembered something.... When C+S reached out to me, early in 2019, they felt compelled to ask if Sage Designs was LGBT friendly because of some experiences they’d had prior to reaching out to us. WTF?!?!?! It actually blew my mind that there are vendors IN OTTAWA who will refuse to take on a wedding because the couple happens to be composed of two men or two women. No one should ever have to worry about whether a vendor will be willing to work with them because of who they’ve fallen in love with. Period. As a business, there are a few things you can do to let couples know that they are welcome: 1 - Add a pride flag to your website. Make sure it can be seen (the footer of every page or somewhere on the contact page are both good options); 2. Add the #loveislove hashtag to your email signature. 3. Include the LGBTQ Friendly attribute your your Google business page. (This one can be tricky - took me some time to figure out so let me know if you need help). What else are you doing to make it easier for couples to know that they don’t have to ask these questions of your business? C+S, we love you guys! Thanks for having us as a part of your special day. We’re so excited about today’s announcement about Ontario’s Stage 3 Reopening Plans which will take effect as of Friday, July 17, 2020. As a part of this update we see outdoor gathering limits increased to 100 and indoor gathering limits increased to 50. We’re preparing for our first Gap Wedding of the year, a micro wedding with five guests and many others tuning in remotely. Next year M+O will throw a big bash at @stonefields_estate but in the meantime we’re forging ahead with what will be a gorgeous, itty-bitty ceremony. . . We’ll be bringing three chairs, a floral arch, one bouquet, and one boutonnière. It’s tiny, intimate on a level that we’ve never done before. But we’re excited to see where this sort of wedding lead...s our industry over time. Will this become the new normal? Some of this will definitely stick in some way. It’s hard to say how right now though. . . One thing we know for sure is this: Man oh man we love designing weddings! We’ve been gushing over gorgeous flowers and dancing at the prospect of a new walk-in cooler. We’ve been designing proposals for new clients and planning gap weddings & micro weddings with current clients. It’s far from business as usual but we’re keeping busy, we’re playing with flowers, and we’re dreaming about the future of our business. . . Gap Weddings - have you heard of them? Probably not, we just coined the term! Even so, they’re happening in a big way in 2020 - but on a micro scale. Gap Weddings are weddings which are split between two different dates. The first date is a micro wedding hosted in 2020 followed by a big celebration in 2021 or beyond. Tent weddings!!! We miss these days. We’ve spent the last two days confirming small, intimate ceremonies taking place this summer and we can’t wait to start designing again!!!

I think we’ve officially passed through the last frost of the season time to plant gardens and watch flowers grow.

Until gatherings of unlimited numbers are allowed again, smaller, more intimate parties will be the way to go.

We're fielding lots of questions this week about whether or not to postpone various upcoming events. We ourselves were planning to host an Open House in our new space on April 2 and we've opted to push that celebration back to June. Right now I'm feeling confident that life will be back to normal by May so anything taking place in May or beyond should be fine to proceed as normal. As for April, we're taking it day-by-day and event-by-event.... Luckily, the events industry is made up of the types of people who are used to (and really good at) rolling with the punches, pivoting when plans change, and coming up with creative solutions on the fly. We've got this! We're doing absolutely everything we can from our computers at home to plan and coordinate and be totally ready to hit the ground running once life returns to normal. All of the weddings and celebrations will be so important in helping us move forward when the time comes. There will be lots to celebrate. Stay well everyone!

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS Hi Friends, Like all of you, the team at Sage Designs is watching the development of the COVID-19 situation closely. ... We applaud our government and community leaders who have taken steps to encourage social distancing over the next couple of weeks. We understand that these precautions are a means of slowing the spread of the virus in the hopes of reducing the burden on our healthcare system as they work tirelessly to manage the outbreak. There’s absolutely nothing we can do to help those amazing humans more dramatically than to adopt social distancing practices. We're confident that the more people choose to stay home the quicker we'll be rid of this virus and the sooner we can get back to our regular routines. For our part, we are implementing strategies to aid the government in their efforts. Most importantly, since we have no events this coming week our team will be working from home for the next 7 days. Next, our showroom will be closed for in-person consultations between now and March 30, 2020. All of the events that we currently have scheduled will go ahead as planned and our team will take extra precautions to ensure that everything and everyone is staying safe and sanitized.
