We acknowledge receipt of the letter from the 35//50 Initiative and commit to enacting change within our organization and our programming. This means 35% IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour) and 50% female or non-binary in paid positions by the 2024-25 performing arts season in Calgary. We are currently enacting change to put us closer to this goal, including adding more positions and building a call to join our board. We are finalizing details on both of these and will release more information as soon as possible! We will also be collaborating with the 35//50 Initiative to assist in reporting on our progress. We also affirm that we will remain in conversation with our community as much as possible. If there are any questions, please contact [email protected]

Just over a month ago, we had the great fortune to workshop one of Clem Martini's new works and what an experience it was! Cantata is an adaptation of Clem Martini's autobiographical work with his brother. It is a dramatization and fictionalization of Clem's experience as a caregiver for a brother with schizophrenia and a mother developing dementia. The family undergoes much stress as the delicate balance of caregiving unravels. ... We rehearsed socially distant from one another with hand sanitizer aplenty and when we had our invite only audience join us, masks were worn as well as mandatory sanitization before entering the space. Trying to create art during this time is certainly bizarre, but we were so grateful to do something in person and for the wonderful response that came from it! We would like to thank Clem Martini, Louise Casemore, Val Pearson, Mike Tan, Janelle Cooper, Rod Squance, Jason Mehmel, Theatre Encounter and our wonderful audiences for sharing this experience with us. It was truly a beautiful experience and a testament to how much power a reading itself can have! #SageTheatre #SageTheatreYYC #NewPlay #YYC #yycarts

A powerful representation of the live event workers out of work during the pandemic. #lightupliveyyc #lightuplive

Sage Theatre 16.08.2020

Today Sage Theatre stands with Light Up Live YYC as they represent the Live Events Workers who were the first to stop working, and will be among the last to return. Everything we've made required the skill, talent, and dedication of live event workers. They are a part of our families and some of our closest friends. We've worked with them for many years and stand with them again today. We join them in advocating pandemic protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks, ...and more. The sooner we make things safer for everyone, the sooner we can all be together again. Today they are representing at Olympic Plaza at this event: https://www.facebook.com/events/236535151002443/ And you can follow them here: https://www.facebook.com/LIGHTUPLIVEYYC/

One of our Artistic Associates (Griffin Cork) chatted with our Ignite Festival of Emerging Artists Festival Producer (Savanna Harvey) about making work online! Give The Breakfast Dish a listen!

While Ignite Festival of Emerging Artists was running back in June our fabulous host Karla Marx reminded viewers in the Twitch stream if they were able to donate $5 per show or $30 for a festival pass. We'd like to encourage that again with our Matching Campaign! With the support of you, our passionate patrons, and the generosity of board member Dany Allard, we have the opportunity to have monetary donations DOUBLE MATCHED this month. Help us reach our goal of $2,000! Your do...nation of $5 is $15! With your support we will continue to be able to produce high quality projects and support Calgary's Emerging Artists with the IGNITE! Festival. Links to donate located below. Thank you for your generosity! Today is the FINAL DAY of the Ignite Festival of Emerging Artists 2020 Restream! This is a ONE OFF presentation of some of the fantastic creative contributions from this year's festival and you will not want to miss out. At 6:30 PM AB time you won't want to be doing anything else.... The festival-at-a-distance model that was utilized this year meant for a lot of creative ingenuity on both our artists and our production team's behalf and the opportunity to share it again to reach more people is a privilege. We thank the artists for allowing their projects to be presented again and we thank Brandon Wilson and Great Canadian Films for all the work that has been put into ensuring the stream is of as high quality as possible!
