The name Djembe comes from the saying Anke djé, Anke bé, which translates to everyone gather in peace, according to the Bambara people in Mali, West Africa -1200 A.D. For most of my life, this instrument has brought me so much joy and pleasure in seeing how much happiness music brings to those around me. Through this passion, I have had the blessing of training with some of the best African, Caribbean and Afro-Latin master drummers from around the globe, sharing in their ...culture, music, and light. Black culture remains one of the biggest influences in my life. It’s allowed me to gain and share knowledge, love, and respect, from the friends I had growing up in predominantly black French schools, to many of my friends now. The recent events in the U.S is devastating to see, demonstrating that, after so many years, there is still hate towards our black brothers and sisters. @willsmith said it best, racism was always there, now it’s on video. We all have childhood heroes, mine being Michael Jordan #23 and 2pac, who’ve inspired us to be great and resilient, even in adversity. It’s time for all of us to join together and show our support loudly, that this needs to stop. We cannot stay quiet as we continue to lose more innocent lives to blind racism. Let’s speak up!!!! I told my parents today to stay home and if there is anything they need it will be dropped off in front of their house. I won’t be seeing them for a few weeks unless it’s facetime. I’ve seen the stats, I’ll be fine, Tom Hanks and Justin Trudeau approved. It’s easy... if you feel sick. Stay home, go online and search for the nearest place to get tested. Wash your hands, it’s better than sanitizer, keep your distance and don’t get offended if they don’t shake your hand or hug you. Be smart, be responsible and don’t touch anything. If you are not 60+ help the ones in need and stay away, I’m an entertainer and without joy and happiness what else do we have right now? Fear?
