The focus is to offer insight, skills, and perspectives on raising and educating girls and enriching exposure to compelling female changemakers. They have reached out to several speakers already and need your help developing this initiative. If you have a topic, person or skill you'd like to suggest, if you have someth...ing to offer, or if you'd like to help make this happen as a volunteer, get engaged! STEM, leadership, mentorship, and LEGO. We've got it all.
Just in time for Valentines Day, another amazing example of service with love. We’re so proud of our students for consistently going above and beyond to impact the community. Lois Delaney Harnett-Shaw, Grade 7 student holds a card that reads: You are Loved and Special as she delivers 225 Valentine's Day cards - one for every resident of Veterans Memorial Lodge. Receiving the cards is Carol Cluff (on the other side of the window), one of the residents of the long-term care facility on Friday, Feb. 12. Picture supplied by Broadmead Care.
Congratulations to our Model UN students for participating in their first big virtual conference! My first experience attending a MUN conference was great. I learned so much about political views in Canada and had lots of fun. I was not sure how much I would like the virtual conference; however, it exceeded my expectations." - Grade 9 student https://www.stmarg.ca//vancouver-model-un-conference-goes/
It's time for a new year and new beginnings.Chinese New Year, Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year as per the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. And according to the same, the New Year begins today, February 12. 2021 is a year of the Ox. It will be a Metal Ox year! The Chinese New Year festival usually lasts for 16 days, starting from Chinese New Year's eve to the Lantern Festival. As a diverse and multicultu...ral school, we love to learn about and share in many of the traditions and celebrations of our staff and students from around the world. #chinesenewyear #lunarnewyear #chinese #gongxifacai #yearoftheox2021 #kongheifatchoi #newyear #china #happynewyear #fortune #art
In honour of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, today we recognize one of our first leaders in the STEM field, SMS alumna, Dr. Frances Oldham Kelsey. Kelsey attended St. Margaret's School from 1928 - 1931, graduating at age 15. She went on to study at McGill University before becoming one of the most iconic scientists in Canadian history. Today we are proud to be Canada's FIRST all-girls STEM school, and Vancouver Island's only all-girls STEM school. ... #STEM #STEMeducation #stemgirls United Nations CAIS Boarding Schools https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wIBCoxuOJ0
Today we celebrate the 35th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day. Did you know, our very own Mrs.Scott is a three-time Olympian? She’s also a member of the Victoria Sports Hall of Fame and was named Victoria’s Female Athlete of the Year four times. Mrs. Scott raced to 26 Canadian titles, Canadian records over five distances, as well as competing in three Summer Olympics, four Commonwealths, one Pan-Am Games and two World Track and Field Championships?!!! ... She is just one of the amazing and talented teachers, role models, and female mentors we have working at SMS. Today, like EVERY DAY, we recognize and encourage all women and girls in sports. At St. Margaret’s SHE CAN do anything she sets her mind to. #nationalgirlsandwomeninsportsday #womensupportingwomen #womeninsports #girlsinsports #shecan

What makes St. Margaret's special? When a Grade 12 student passes their driving test and the hallways erupt with congratulatory cheers from students, teachers and staff that can be heard across the entire school. Why? Because at SMS everyone knows your name and your story matters! ~UNITY.~

It’s beginning to look wintery around campus as students in Grades 3&4 cut out for our annual SMS holiday tree display at the @thebaycentre Victoria. This year’s theme is remembering our elders. Students wrote the names of loved ones, and special people in their lives on the snowflake. For most of them, this was their FIRST time making paper snow flakes!
